Week 1 preview (Nov. 9-14)

Jacksonville was just 4-17 last season. You have to think that Whalen's seat is now scorching hot if they can't pull it out.
In fairness Jacksonville was dealing with a lot of injuries last season. At one point they had 4 scholarship players and used players from other sports to fill their roster. The record has a lot of asterisks to it from my view.

Tulane pulled away late from SE Lousiana 66-58, Ursin was fun to watch, she only had 2 points in the first half but came out hot in the 3rd quarter with 13 points and finished with 15pts/8 rebounds

Yikes. Jacksonville pulls it out despite a 3 from Hubbard with 3 seconds remaining to pull Minnesota within 1. Jacksonville sends Whalen's Squad to 0-1. Big win for the ASUN.
Major yikes, I would think the seat is on fire for Whalen now, I would be shocked if they keep her. I know its the first game of the season, but Minn has unfortunately continued to trend downward and doesn't seem to be changing soon.

Ooof. Even if they pull this out, it's an inauspicious home opener for the Wobbling Whalens.
MN loses 69-66
Sara Scalia (B10 Honorable Mention) had some rough TO's at the end.

Angel Reese with 21 and 14 for the Terps. That's maybe their biggest X Factor for title hopes.

Khayla Pointer opens with a triple double for Mulkey. 16, 11 reb, 13 ast. LSU 82-40 F over Nicholls State.
I was at the MD game. Reese had a decent game but the 14 reb are deceiving against a shorter & pesky Longwood team. 8/14 of the reb were offensive b/c she either missed or got her shot blocked ‍♂️ a lot today. & that was b/c she goes up with the ball too low so the smaller defenders were able to swipe at the ball easily.

Mimi Collins might push her for that starting 5 spot when Diamond comes back from injury. Mimi had 16 pts & 6 reb. (2/4 from 3-pt) (5/9 overall)… 14 in the 1st half.

The real star today was freshman “Shyanne Sellers” with 17 pts (3/5 from 3-pt), 3 reb, 2 ast & 3 stl off the bench.

Darn. I thought Nicholls might hang with LSU for a while.

I guess Dobee has some work to do.

Lol the ultimate indignity. Missing the NCAAs is one thing, but this ...

The list for Tuesday was so unwieldy that I took the big clippers to it. Must have shorn too close. My mistake.
...but was it?

Good to know. How was Reese defensively?

So Kim started Gusters and Newby and brought in Aifuwa off the bench? How do our LSU fans feel about this approach?

I am jealous for other fanbases who are getting games so early.

Well at least you will be getting games late, while the other fanbases (except for a small few) seasons are over.

Get that work out session in early is all I can recommend.

Not today.... just gotta push things back a day. Looking ahead.. Sunday's are gonna be a major problem

Greensboro escapes Asheville.

Milwaukee and Ball State going down to the wire here!

My Spartans.. (though I didn't even know they were playing today)

In perusing the box scores, I see a transfer name I wasn't aware of. Janai Crooms, who played two years at Ohio State and one year at Michigan State, is now at Providence. She's a native of Cranston, RI.

Certainly a good pickup for the Friars.

Thinking out loud... I wonder if we can use the chat room for a non-UCONN game

Yes, I believe the mods want people to use chat in lieu of any and all game threads.

I see that some people are in there now, in fact.

I think we'll have to, because the mods keep saying "no game threads."

Miami is in a nailbiter with Jackson St 63-63

Miami survives by hitting a couple of 3's in the last few minutes.

To be fair Jackson State is picked to win the SWAC, but then again the SWAC is a one of the weakest D1 conferences. Miami has really fallen of a cliff in the last couple years.

A stunner from High Point's brand new arena.

Elon, picked 6th in the preseason Colonial poll, stuns the Panthers, who return everyone from last year's upstart team that led UConn 3-2 after 100 seconds.

High Point was apparently overconfident after seeing their 25th place ranking on @triaddukefan 's BY25 ballot.

Last year was their High Point.

Oh man, that's awful. So sorry to hear that.

If I ever stop watching this sport, it'll be because I can't bear watching the injuries.
