My UConn fandom started in ‘06 or so with the Women’s team, introduced by my grandfather. I gravitated toward the men’s team in ‘09 as a boy playing basketball myself

After that, I kind of started to take the success of UConn Women’s basketball for granted, and it wasn’t until this most recent stretch that I realized how misguided that was. Being great in women’s college basketball, so consistently, was much harder than I was giving it credit for

Proud of the team and Geno, and thanks to the UConn Women for kickstarting my journey to fandom 20 years ago. This one meant something special, after so long. Think I’ll be a closer follower of the Women going forward

So incredible happy for this team. Perseverance through adversity. And beat 3 #1 seeds along the way.
But what touched me most about these guys was their pure love for each other and their willingness to give everything for the greater good of all.
So proud of these young women!!

Ashlynn Shade wasn't the same after that nasty fall vs. Oklahoma.
But her three pointer before the half was a pivotal moment in today's game. It gave UCONN a double digit lead at halftime & took some steam out of South Carolina's comeback.
And Ashlynn never lost her aggressive style, attacking rebounds & loose balls with a vengeance.
I agree, she is aggressive on rebounds, and even if she doesn't get the rebound, she tries to tie up the rebounder. Pesky, but effective!

You guys have a terrific team and will be in the hunt next year.

Is this a bad time to tell you Azzi is coming back next season? :)
Oh Nan, that was a wee bit nau**ty!

S Carolina will win more championships. Just wasn’t their year.

And that three set up an interesting dynamic. If you saw Dawn's face after that, it was, "not again...sigh..." So she knew she had to cover all the outside shooters, and not leave one alone. That left the middle wide open for KK to stroll right in with a few layups, defenders arriving late. And Shade's fighting for rebounds certainly had the crowd going on several occasions. Together their role wasn't the same as the big 3's but pretty crucial.

After reviewing today’s stats these are some oddities that surprised me.
1. USC led in 3 pt. %, 4-16..25% to Uconn’s 4-17..23.5%
2. UConn lead in blocks 5-4
3. UConn led in points in the paint 36-26..big surprise
4 UConn led in rebounds 40-36.. biggest surprise

Once again, congratulations UCONN on a well deserved Championship !

First off congratulations! As a men’s poster but also a women’s team fan I must say this: Yes Uconn was more talented but… the tenacity and toughness I saw was something to behold. Paige fights for every ball out there like it’s life or death and so does Sarah, and the rest of the team is right in line. And UConn dominated them while shooting just 23% from 3, didn’t matter.
Not all basketball players, men or women that I watch play with that kind of intensity. Great great performance!
UConn, especially this year, has become tougher. They used to play “pretty” ball, since their last championship, but they didn’t scare or intimidate teams in the same way that SC did. Injuries etc. didn’t help obviously. But now, they have that swagger, and they sure showed they can battle with the best of them and crush them. KK, Jana, Sarah, Ash, Azzi- don’t mess with those girls!

I am so happy for this team. They are such a great group, talented, hard-working, close knit, humble, spiritual, so easy to root for. A team in the truest sense of the word. Coaches as well.

Also a shout out to us fans. Seven seasons beginning in 2017 ended with a loss (2020 technically ended with a win) and all of them were gut wrenching, beginning with MissState. It has been a long time and let’s give ourselves a pat on the back for keeping the faith and staying positive!

Finally, the players on those teams who did not come away with a title should feel like they are a big part of this. Nika, Aaliyah, Evina, Dorka, Lou, ONO, Christyn, and many others. Many nights at Gampel and XL I would see 14 or 15 opponents warming up on one end while 7 or 8 UConn players took the court. They played short handed, they bravely fought through injury and exhaustion, they persevered and set an amazing example for these players to follow. They are champions tonight as well.
