I remember some really good offensive sets at the end of that game. Especially to get Polley shots. He was much calmer.
Sometimes you need to go zone in these stupid NBE games. Especially against a team who is dictating the pace and mucking it up on defense with refs allowing them to get away with itThere is a bigger issue at hand in regards to making in game adjustments and that falls solely on Hurley’s stubbornness. We watched that kid from New Mexico State go for 30 last year and Hurley didn’t even consider sending a double team, going zone, or putting a different body on him. Tonight was another reminder of this. After Hopkins scored his first 20 it was time to start doubling him and make someone else beat us. Hurley sat back and watched as if he thought Karaban was all of a sudden magically going to stop him. I love Hurley’s tenacity and recruiting but he definitely lacks the in game adjustments that separate the good coaches from the great ones.
Obvy a jokeHe goes 14-2 through the first 16 games
Is this the guy that posted Hurley got in a fight with providence fans?top recruits let this team down, again I've never been a believer in Hurley. I expect another 1st or 2nd rd exit in tournament
Compared to some opponents… not all. Just need to manage him and the rest a little better. He’s weak and slow. He’s a freshman. It will get addressed
the cockroaches come out of the woodwork after losses loltop recruits let this team down, again I've never been a believer in Hurley. I expect another 1st or 2nd rd exit in tournament
This player still puzzles me. Why is he still here yet called the best offensive rebounder on the team.I be forgetting we have Springs. Is he really that bad to not get minutes in these matchups?
Phil Nolan and Charles Okwandu were useable players for us. Springs can’t be that bad.
Hurley’s a great recruiter I guess. This player still puzzles me. Why is he still here yet called the best offensive rebounder on the team.
This team is loaded with exception of good guard penetration. Hurley doesn’t know how to maintain and tune his Ferrari for optimal performance. End of story.Every flaw that was predicted before the season has come out in very obvious fashion the last two games. We were hot for a couple big games in the early season, now regressing to what everyone expected. Could be a Sweet 16 team if things come together for the end of the year, though
Every team in college basketball is flawed. We don’t seem to have a killer instinct that wins close games on the road. We play tight. Love this team. Still have high expectations, but we don’t have it… yet.
Hopkins looked bigger than 220 to me. Either that or our guys are not 210.No he isn't. Andre is 6'6 210 and Karaban is 6'8 210. Hopkins is 6'6 220.
We led for most of the first half.Hurley didn't have his team up for this game and it showed on the court.
We played entirely different today than that game. Different lineups, different philosophy on offense. Attacked the rim much more. Lived in the paint. Didn't settle for 3s. Hit the boards harder. We fouled too much and missed shots. They didn’t learn anything from the Xavier loss. Not one damn thing.
Who’s fault is that?
2 fouls in the first 4 minutes took away that option. Alex got schooled by a strong, skilled, and more experienced player who had a better sense of what he could and couldn't do...and shot particularly well today.Defensively, I don't understand the lack of adjustment on guys that are going off on us. Hurley's done this for 5 years and hasn't gotten better at it. It was obvious since before tip-off that Karaban was going to get smoked by Hopkins. You can't throw your talented freshman in the fire like that and kill their confidence. Jackson needed to be on him as soon as he started going off.
It's the hardest 4-game stretch Dan Hurley has ever faced, and so far he's 0-2 on the road against two very good coaches. That Marquette game after Creighton ain’t gonna be no picnic either
Hurley didn’t miss layups and every 3 they shot, he didn’t get out toughed, the players did and for me, I don’t care what the coach does, good or bad, I would NEVER let the opposing team out hustle or tough me, if you need a coach to have you up for the game then maybe you shouldn’t be playing at all but definitely at UConnYeah, not sure how we all of sudden we can't shoot but seeing Providence out hustling us for every loose ball is depressing. Hurley didn't have his team up for this game and it showed on the court.
didn't you post a fake tweet about Hurley hitting fans?the cockroaches come out of the woodwork after losses
So be it. Gives us extra fouls to use instead of guys like Karaban and Jackson getting in foul trouble.Springs would have fouled out in 5 minutes guarding Hopkins. He hasn’t played all year and put him in to guard a beast like Hopkins. Nope.
He played hard for us which is something to love. He just realistically didn’t win anything here. With the opportunities to do so. Wasn’t a lot of games that mattered where he was the best player on the court. This is what I’ll always think of with Cole unfortunately, though I do love him.
Well, it seemed like the two bigs together held their own It was an interesting look at times. If Johnson returns soon, we could play that option, more.I mean he made a pretty big change in playing Sanogo and Clingan together, and it wasn't even bad like I expected. The offense has just taken about 10 steps back
This is such a tired narrative. We went 14-0 and I suspect Hurley made no in game adjustments during that streak as well? Sure, we are experiencing some growing pains. But Hurley made plenty of adjustments. Its amazing how quickly this board turns at any sign of adversity. Sad, actually. This team was never going 32-0. So we lost 2 consecutive games on the road against two of the most experienced and strongest teams late in second half. Its frustrating but seems logical. To blame Hurley is non sensical but then again, this is the yard and I guess haters are simply going to hate. The roster is great. It’s Hurley’s in game coaching that is costing us.
Four games in a row and he hasn’t changed one thing
and with AJ in foul trouble all game and out for the last 16 of first half, who was Hurley supposed to put on him? Rather than blame Hurley, why not ask where the hell was the help side defense?Hurley said pregame Hopkins was going to be a tough matchup for Karaban, which everyone knew would be a mismatch and then he stuck to that matchup for most of the game and let him drop 27. I don’t get it.
Because you know Samson can guard them? Name one thing you have seen Samson do on the court ever.We need 1) Samson to come back to guard the guys Karaban can’t. And 2) Newton/Joey C to be worth something
Lets see how many good coaches win at Providence and at Xavier this year. Maybe this team has overachieved a bit at the start of the year and they are now experiencing some growing pains in two of the most difficult places to win in Big East. I don't know, maybe its that.Danny Hurley is incapable of winning on the road. He hasn’t in 5 years and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen this year either. Oh well….
AJ was in foul trouble all night and if he guarded Hopkins with thos refs, he would have had 4 by the 16 minute mark in second half. Hurlely literally had to take AJ off Hopkins to protect AJ.AJ is not too small
Yes, this is coachable, just watch DUKE!Karaban just needs to learn to fall down. I counted 4 times where he could’ve just dropped and got a charge call on Hopkins
Or vs Nova really. They have been in a a slump for a while now. Legs seem tired. Ball movement has dissolved. Help defense has evaporated. Its been a mess for 2 plus weeks.I don’t think we played that well at Butler either. They just aren’t good
