I think you are purposely being obtuse. The ACC has 18 football members so there is no shortage of content. In fact the conference would be better off kicking out Wake because Wake costs the same as Florida State to the ACC. You want Pitt to play Wake Forest which isn't exactly a barn-burner that the networks make money on.

Revenue to the ACC and is also a cost to the ACC. If you were to classify the ACC income statement by university, I'm quite sure Florida State would be very profitable while Wake Forest is a big loss. You make it sound like all football programs are worth the same but of course Wake football is much less valuable than the other football programs.

It doesn’t really matter. If either Big 12 or ACC found value in raiding BE for BB it would have happened.

The ACC and Big East aren’t merging.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. The 15,000 is for average attendance at football games over a three year period.

I believe the Big East members voted to kick Temple out because of performance and poor attendance. I don't think it had anything to do with the NCAA.

I don't think anyone would be kicked out of a conference. The Big East and ACC membership could both vote to dissolve their conferences with the understanding that they all form a brand new conference with new bylaws. Put in place specific performance related bonuses and penalties. They schedule a formal meeting and somehow forget to give butler and bcu the secret handshake. That combined conference would be far superior to the Big XII and better than the Big Ten and SEC in basketball.

The Big East gave Temple an ultimatum regarding attendance, scheduling, facilities, etc. Temple responded by making absolutely no changes and the Big East booted them. Effectively, though, they were booted for performance.

Schools are going to have to prove that they add value, whether by performance or tv market. I have nothing against Wake, I'm sure it's fine school with a proud tradition, but it adds nothing of value to the ACC.

It’s more likely than not that the ACC does not kick out members.

It’s very very unlikely that the ACC kicks out Wake to add UConn.

That is all correct. Irrelevant, but correct.

There is some talk about uneven revenue sharing amoung the ACC members to accomodate the likes of FSU, UNC, etc. That path will not end well for the likes of WF, BC, etc. At some point in a world where money matters most in terms of the ability to compete, there is no use continuing to try to compete.

My sense is a lot of people want to hold onto the notion that college athletics as it used to be. We're in a world of professional sport franchises with unfettered free agency. The vast majority of college athletic departments will not be able to compete in this world. I don't know what Vilanova has to support its hoops program, but unless there are some very deep pockets behind the scenes Nova has already seen it last natty. Same may very well be true for UCONN.

Time to smell the coffee.

I doubt the endowment has anything to do with it. I also doubt that Villanova has access to the resources that schools in the Big and Sec do.

Big Ten and SEC of course have more resources.

Let us know when there are endowed funds to support attracting and retaining basketball talent. Goodness knows what the annual payroll will be to compete at the highest levels of college hoops, but I have to imagine its heading to $10-15 million annually, so someone is going to have to set aside $200-300 million so 18-20 year olds can play basketball. Seems like a core academic persuit to me.
