DogI'm sure there'll still be some amongst us who'll still leg hump Rick Pitino with unusual fervor even after we leave the land of small time schools.

The Big East should add Drake. They have a really good Mock Trial team.

Right?

I don’t know why people think the Big East would need to do anything. There’s no one out there for them to add and if people think that Fox is going to be head over heels to hand out $4-$6M for Dayton or St. Louis or whoever, they won’t be.

On the bright side for ‘em, we seem properly stuck here.

Kill shot isn’t necessarily needed when the threat has been neutralized.

What threat? Do you understand how cartels work?

Edit: Never mind. I am tired of arguing with the doom and gloomers. Say whatever you want.

Let's say the BE added Dayton and St. Louis. Well that's 2 better than 11 isn't it. 2 additional markets. The BE has been carrying enough dead weight as it is while being a smallish conference. Adding 2 programs and 2 markets increases the chances of having a successful team to follow in the tournament. It's a numbers game. St. Louis doesn't have to be great. Just good enough to have entertaining games in St. Louis. And ideally you have the whole is greater than the sum of its parts theory in action. The Mike Damone Attitude

Who’s going to pay Dayton and St. Louis?

I do think there would potentially be a replacement of UConn in some way from a sheer content perspective to fulfill their media rights contact, perhaps Dayton and/or St Louis come in on a SMU/ACC esque deal until the ensuing BE deal is drafted

I mean, if UConn leaves then I really don't care. In the mean time I am very concerned. 11 is just too small. If we are staying here long term, I'd like to see a few other FBS schools.

The ultimate ultimate ultimate kick in the crotch, however unllikely, would be the Jonnies getting an invite to say the Big 12 because suddenly a team in NYC has a great year and brings the market. People will retort with "No conference is taking a basketball only school from the Big East" as if CR is all about rational moves. That would be Slick Rick's 2nd major coup against UConn. Unless UConn is invited.

Other than expanding, I don't think there is anything Val and the Big East could do to improve its situation.

I'm not sure that expanding actually improves the situation. It may, in fact, make it worse due to more mouths to feed.

In business growth is key. Much larger businesses with lower profit margins have a better chance of survival than small businesses with higher profit margins. Grow or be devoured. Strength in numbers. All that .

Successful businesses definitely do make smart acquisitions. Businesses that make bad acquisitions fail.

So, the question returns to finding someone who is willing to pay for the addition of Dayton and St. Louis. If no one will, then they have no value to the Big East.

Unless one values existing. Just saying a small conference with deadweight is ripe for poaching. We'll see.

Adding more deadweight increases vulnerability, not the opposite. Regardless, it's all moot.

The P4 ain't plucking no one from here except maybe UConn. No other conference below that level can afford poach from the BE. This all seems wild.

We better get St. Louis and Drake before someone else does.

We would love to hear your ideas Mr. Rickles to improve the Big East since you think Val is asleep at the switch.

There is probably nothing she can do. You just like there was nothing anyone at UConn could have done to get them into the ACC over Louisville.

Yeah, that’s a non-starter;.

That’s really the rational answer - just replace UConn to keep the schedule.

Nothing.

There’s no one to add.

What she can do is lean like hell on slugs like DePaul and Seton Hall and make sure that they’re spreading $4-5M a year around to their men’s hoop program in revenue sharing…and seven figures on women’s basketball because that aspect of the conference is crap.

I hope she has the 80 year old retired guy from Butler representing the Big East on the tournament committee again.

That's a very fair criticism. No idea what was going on there appointing the Butler AD.

September 13, 2024
INDIANAPOLIS — Georgetown Athletics Director Lee Reed has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, replacing Mark Jackson, who resigned as athletics director at Villanova to take the same position at Northwestern last month. Jackson was initially appointed to represent the Big East Conference after Butler Athletics Director Barry Collier retired on April 30. Now, Reed will fill the final two years of Collier’s original five-year term, which expires in August 2026.

That is not true at all. Intel and most of the traditional movie studios say "hello".
