USA U16 National Team Game Info

This is a rerun: Daddy C and I saw Aliyah play in January against Loomis....a pretty decent team. Maybe one kid over 6' to try and guard Boston.

She was very raw offensively imo especially facing the basket. She had very good full court dribbling skills and seemed to have a nice sense of passing as well.
Her best offensive feature was post-up around the hoop....left hand/right hand...excellent strong spin moves.
It will be fascinating to see how she develops over the next 2 years. Her first jump ball in college isn't for 29 months so she has lots of time.

We know that she has been working very hard during the spring to improve...Carl Adamec had a nice article about her a few days ago and wrote that she has been an early riser....
like around 4:00 A.M...to go to the gym

You Go, Peaches!!!

I note that Paige is shooting 85.7% and is pretty handy with the steals. Boston has 1 foul in 2 games. Pretty neat stats. Am I right? Brunelle playing the 2 guard?

Brunelle playing the 2 guard?

Brunelle's out there more often than not with the other starters (Taylor, Cooke, Boston, and Horston). If anything, Brunelle's technically the 4.

Boston appears to have good body control when she goes up to block shots therefore decreasing the odds of fouling.....she also tends to keep the ball in play and not just swat it away.......these are great traits for a post to have at her age

Bueckers - - well, we all know where kids named Paige, especially those who can "figger things out," like to go to play their college basketball, eh? No worries.

US could've saved a lot of money on airfare and gotten better competition scrimmaging in Colorado.

Argentina - USA ... 11-10.........finally a team that wants to run with us.......Argentina plays on another level from the first three victims......I don't think they are athletic enough to stick with the US but our girls better make some shots

.-.
Caitlin Clarke is really sparking them off the bench.

Something about how Celeste Taylor plays. She hard nosed and everywhere. I like her game.

#8 is back in!?!? I dont know why? She has yet to impress me.

USA playing better defense especially on drives to the basket.....Ms Watson with two good layups on passes from Sam B........looks like they are playing under control.....this game is still fairly tight

If the USA gets past Argentina they will face Canada who beat Columbia by 26............should be a good game if the USA plays a decent second half

My Spanish is very spotty but I still get more game information from this announcer than any US wcbb announcer. Sticks with the play, announces every substitution, in or out and every foul and who it is called on. And still finds time during stoppages in play to comment on replays.

I'd bet he has done a lot of radio calls.

My Spanish is great and you are correct. He is doing an excellent job

USA just too much for Argentina........no ball handling once #14 left the game and it has become turnover city...........

Hard to judge the quality of play from the US when the opponent turns the ball over 40 times.

I just got around to watching the first half of the game vs Puerto Rico. Man, was that ugly. It looked like an SEC game. The worst shooting half vs an international opponent I've ever seen. Then I watched the second half.

Boy-o.

I'm going to watch the Argentina game tomorrow, but I don't expect this team to suddenly become sharp shooters overnight. Defensively and offensively the effort is always there. That's a big plus. These are all very young women so all of this can change next week. But.

None of the bigs have shown me any good footwork inside. Almost everyone either shoots off rhythm, wrong footed, or off balance. Sam has nice form but hardly ever seems in rhythm. Clark seems to shoot with good form, but either shoot or pass. You can't do both. I don't know what to think about Horston. Fudd has nice quickness. Bueckers seems to run hot and cold, but has nice form. Bueckers also plays the passing lanes well. Cooke has a nice little handle. No one else really jumps off the screen. Their shooting percentage numbers aren't that bad, but their midrange percentage seems to me to be atrocious. All in all, none of their wins have been pretty. They'd have trouble against a team with length that spreads the floor, not necessary quick, and that shoots well from outside and rebounds. Also small quick penetrating guards would give them fits. Like many Euro teams.

It's going to be ugly more times than not. They're 15-yo girls, and ones who haven't played together before which doesn't help.

The truth has never been better spoken.

Hmmm, someone else is a fan of Paige Bueckers:

No one has surprised me on our team compared to training camp, but I love seeing Paige Bueckers play. She’s an amazing player. She hustles and gets after it. We call her the ‘Bucket Getter.’ The whole team is playing great as one, but she’s one of the girls who really stands out to me.

Samantha Brunelle blog: Early wins, staying on track and who she loves watching

Even with my almost non-existent Spanish, the announcer is a lot of fun to listen to. He really enjoys the sport, and it's contagious!
