Honest to god, I really wonder about the coach that voted for Tennessee for #1.
DD- I wonder if the game being in Tennessee could have been a reason- I think they are good enough and because the FF is in your home state, adds much more motivation to be there. If they do make it, It becomes like our Bridgeport Regional times 2= 20,000, (or 4 x half twice?) ,never been good at geometry! But that "could" be a reason that someone possibly believes they are the National Champions in 2014--- Not sayin I believe it. But I think we meet them in the semis- I gotta feeling!

Okay, so KF is gone. But what did that coach not understand about essentially the whole team being back that made the field look like 3rd graders in the NCAAs last year? BB is back, and if BS, KML, and SD - and arguably a healthy BH - aren't each the best in the country at their positions, none of us know anything. Throw in MJ, who will be a force even if she doesn't score a point, Tuck, KS and who know what SC will add, and it's stupid to pick any other team. Of course nothing is guaranteed, but pre-season, wow.
I know who Tuck is--- And KML--- can someone help me with the others? (JK) (G-I)

And adds more pressure as well.

Nashville (home of Vandy and the Grand Old Opry) and Knoxville (UT) are in the same state geographically only. Otherwise (e.g., culturally) they are as disparate as, well, Memphis and Chatanooga.

As the state university, there surely are many UT alums in the Nashville area.

She is very athletic she is very quick and she can jump. I saw a practice clip she tried to black a shot by Russell. She can apply good ball pressure. She has a very good knowledge of the game. She also play with high energy.
Trying to block a shot accomplishes nothing. If Carter did block a shot by Russell, I'd consider that a bad omen for Tennessee.

I have no idea why and neither do you. Your rational is a bad as his/her picking Tennessee in the first place.

Duke can compete. Maybe. You don't mind if I see how well Carter plays, how well the freshman adapt to college ball and how TN plays without Spani and Williams?

From this Uconn fan, I can think of no rational reason to select TN over Uconn in a ore-season poll.

What's an ore-season poll?

Not always. It could cause one to alter their shot.

In the context we're discussing here, i.e. the talent of a player, trying is not relevant. Did you ever hear a player analysis list trying to do something as a positive? It's the doing that counts.

Even though I think not voting UConn #1 pre-season is ridiculous, I think pre-season polls are more ridiculous. Every year, in both hoops and football, the pre-season rankings lay out a false road map that usually takes, in hoops, at least 10 if not more games to shake out. Teams perform better or worse than expected. I'd rather see polls start at game 10 for hoops and 4 for football. At least hoops has the virtue of a real championship tournament where rankings at best earn a few wins.

Well the BCS standings, the thing that really counts for football does not come into play until well into the season.

And I don't see anything wrong with the preseason polls. It's just where people think the teams are. Things change as the season goes along. Doesn't mean the #1 team is going to win the NC, they are just considered #1 at this time (this week, etc.).

The problem, if problem is the right word, is that it takes a long time for the polls to reflect actual performance. Unlike political polls which give a fix on attitudes and only one event to show actual performance,, sports give immediate , on going results. So with 0 games played, the only basis for a poll is pure guess work even if there is some historical info, like the previous year or departed or new players, used to make the guess. Obviously sports polls give fans something to talk about and coaches and writers a chance to say something about teams they've never actually seen. But there are worse things in the world to fret about. We don't need polls to tell us, barring injury, that this UConn team should be the toughest out in the country.

But it's much more impressive to beat the 2nd ranked Duke, than just plain ole Duke.

Besides you gotta sell all those #1 fingers. You trying to put those guys outta business?
