What’s with Hovland’s driver? Real tinny sound, very distinctive. Maybe that’s why it’s going crooked?
Tiger never won at Oakmont. Not impressed with the quality of play down the stretch. No one is making anything and lots of mental mistakes. Tiger in his Prime would dominate this level of competition.
Just going to ask instead of research… why would you need to replace the shaft and grip? The shaft isn’t even tested. That’s not accurate at all and you school is completely wrong. While after the PGA he could have put a new head on his old shaft and grip he didn’t have that option when his driver failed the compliance test.
These guys get very comfortable with clubs , Rory and Scottie had both used the same driver for multiple years. You don’t just swap out someone’s tools and not expect some growing pains. Now , at this point he should have it under control.
Think he's playing his ol'reliable PING G425 LST which has a very distinct (loud) soundWhat’s with Hovland’s driver? Real tinny sound, very distinctive. Maybe that’s why it’s going crooked?
He could just swap out the head and reuse the shaft and grip but it can’t be done on the fly. The epoxy needs to cure,Just going to ask instead of research… why would you need to replace the shaft and grip? The shaft isn’t even tested.
Pathetic they didn't give him relief. Horrible call. Water was spraying everywhere. Definitely had an impact on the outcome.Tiger never won at Oakmont.
Although maybe Tiger would've been given relief on 15 that Burns didn't get because he's Tiger.
Pretty sure it’s just screwed in. Like mine.He could just swap out the head and reuse the shaft and grip but it can’t be done on the fly. The epoxy needs to cure,
the hosel is epoxied and you most likely have a driver where you can adjust loft angles as well as to compensate for a draw or fade.Took a 64 foot putt on the final hole to prove me wrong.....I'm taking the victory anyhow. War of attrition, love to see this in this era of -20 every week.I'll take Oakmont. You can have the field. With no rain, winning score will not be under par.
He plays with a graphite shaft. Its bonded. It's a process taking the thing off and putting it on. I believe many pros are using graphite for their drivers and woods now. Steel still more often used for irons.Pretty sure it’s just screwed in. Like mine.
I’ll check that out. I still feel the shaft is more important than the clubface.Your driver head is not screwed inthe hosel is epoxied and you most likely have a driver where you can adjust loft angles as well as to compensate for a draw or fade.
The pros are not using an adjustable driver head. Their clubs are custom built for their exact swing.
I’ve made plenty of clubs. I understand how they’re made. I’m pretty sure that the Tour workshop could make a switch in less than an hour.He plays with a graphite shaft. Its bonded. Your right. He uses adjustable hosels.I’ve made plenty of clubs. I understand how they’re made. I’m pretty sure that the Tour workshop could make a switch in less than an hour.
The folks who ran Oakmont back in the 70s were horrified Johnny Miller could come there and shoot a 63. Ever since that time, they've gone out of their way to make sure it could never happen again.I know of a pro who is as they all are a well under scratch golfer who qualified and plays Korn Ferry and South America. He averages 305 on his drives and shot +12 for the first 2 rounds and missed the cut. Just like Mikkelson. 1 person shot under par and 10,000 people tried qualifying to play there, so they made it harder. It’s ridiculously, crazy difficult. This is not anything like the golf we all attempt to play but equipment has gotten better and scoring hasn’t shown it here so are they making it longer and more difficult especially the rough?
The membership at Oakmont or any other US Open have no say in how the course is set up.The folks who ran Oakmont back in the 70s were horrified Johnny Miller could come there and shoot a 63. Ever since that time, they've gone out of their way to make sure it could never happen again.
I believe Tiger's best score at Oakmont was +6.
That’s not true for all of them. We recently saw Griffin screwing and locking in his driver right on the first tee I believe in Canada and the announcers mentioned it. I’m sure there’s plenty who use the adjustable drives. In that case the only epoxy issues would be grip change.Your driver head is not screwed inthe hosel is epoxied and you most likely have a driver where you can adjust loft angles as well as to compensate for a draw or fade.

He finished 2nd tied with Furyck that year at +6 the year Cabrera won. No one “tames” that menace of a course but the course played fairly easy day 1 this year because of conditions being fairly soft especially the greens. The folks who ran Oakmont back in the 70s were horrified Johnny Miller could come there and shoot a 63. 4 or 5 people shot under par in round 1, that’s playing easy? The average score was almost 74He finished 2nd tied with Furyck that year at +6 the year Cabrera won. I think my next putter will be a zero torque type. That final putt was a LAB advertisement

It's a ridiculously difficult course when the US Open isn't there. Rough is 1.5"-2" shorter, greens are 13 on the Stimpmeter instead of 14.5-15. Other than that, it's the same course. The membership at Oakmont or any other US Open have no say in how the course is set up.
The USGA works directly with the Course Superintendent to set up the course conditions. If Oakmont decided they wanted to cut the rough to 2” or let it grow to 8” it wouldn’t matter. The USGA director of Agronomy makes that call and every call leading to the Open. They have been making adjustments to the course since Oakmont was last awarded the Open. There is a reason that these courses are chosen 8-10 years in advance of hosting.
