OT: US Open: Oakmont. What Are Your Thoughts? Who Do You Have?

It's a ridiculously difficult course when the US Open isn't there. Rough is 1.5"-2" shorter, greens are 13 on the Stimpmeter instead of 14.5-15. Other than that, it's the same course.
no doubt, the USGA could call Oakmont and that course could host the US open any day of the week

I’ve never played there but know someone who did. He said he had no fun at all. He is a 7-8 handicap and struggled to break 100. Brutal rough, fast greens with lots of slope that if you miss a downhill putt you are probably chipping your next one. Greens that slope away. Oh, and he said if you are up against one of those churchpews just hit it sideways and hope.

But I admit it was fun watching the pros look mortal in some ways.

Am thrilled for JJ surviving that torture chamber of a golf round! He was a Steady Eddie with a great attitude throughout the adversities he faced in the 1st 6 holes, and came out of the rain delay with a renewed purpose and played to a well deserved victory that will change his life forever!

.-.
Anyone here make you own with components? Haven’t golfed in 15 years. Played homemade GolfSmith clubs, loved them. Need a new set of irons and woods as I’m sure they’ve improved technology.

I used to make them. About 20-25 years ago. Still have a lot of components to complete. I decided to try a name brand to see if I was missing something, so I bought used Taylormades. Minimal difference from what I saw. I did notice one thing while researching shafts, and that was spine alignment of the shaft does seem to make a difference. I did a simple manual test, vs doing flowing, etc. The one set I did with the spine pointing to the target was remarkably consistent through all clubs (3-sw). Unfortunately, they were steel and my graphite shafts were about a club longer, so the grandsons got them. Got my start through the Golfsmith clubbuilding classes (in Norwalk?).

Not sure why sandwedge gets named Serah Williams.

The mods on this board hate it when posters use acronyms for players names so they have a script to change acronyms in to a player's name.

Check out the Red Sox 2025 thread on the pro sports board. Lots of talk about the Devers trade and how he was willing to be a Dan Hurley but didn't want to play 1B.....

The script automatically changes Designated Hitter (D H) in to Dan Hurley.

I made a set of wedges and irons from Maltby. Absolutely love them and a fun process to nerd out over for a bit.
