The folks who ran Oakmont back in the 70s were horrified Johnny Miller could come there and shoot a 63. Ever since that time, they've gone out of their way to make sure it could never happen again.I know of a pro who is as they all are a well under scratch golfer who qualified and plays Korn Ferry and South America. He averages 305 on his drives and shot +12 for the first 2 rounds and missed the cut. Just like Mikkelson. 1 person shot under par and 10,000 people tried qualifying to play there, so they made it harder. It’s ridiculously, crazy difficult. This is not anything like the golf we all attempt to play but equipment has gotten better and scoring hasn’t shown it here so are they making it longer and more difficult especially the rough?
I believe Tiger's best score at Oakmont was +6.
