Bouk

Something just doesn't add up. I thought he would have a similar or even better career than Rip. (Boy was I wrong) He had all the tools. Last year is was the coach. Earlier this year it was the incident. He has been nailed to the bench outside of a few cameos in garbage time. Seems like his career is eroding. A close buddy of mine and I had a bet about the better NBA career between Bouk and David Duke Jr. I stupidly took Duke early on. Figured it was a certain loser after their 20/21 seasons. Bouk was destined to great things, Who would have thought that maybe Duke ends up better over the long term? Is there still time for Bouk? Can he turn it around? He was the next great Husky pro. We need more of them.
Bouk v. Rip

Rip never did anything on or off the court that hurt his chances of succeeding at the NBA level. He was a model citizen and player.

Bouk on the other hand is his own worst enemy despite immense raw talent.

RIP despite being pretty thin and his mid range game being better than his three point game carved out a nice NBA career. Why because he worked his butt off every game to get those mid range opportunities.
I always felt a little sorry for the guy guarding him as it required marathon like stamina.
Bouk on paper probably should be a better player. Incredible athleticism, great handle . A lot of open looks because he could blow ball most single coverage. What’s the difference ?
Compare him to Bazz, who really was a marginal NBA prospect,
Much less athleticism, Bouk is bigger , stronger . as good a shooter.
I don’t think the Boneyard understands how hard SN had to work to last 5 years in the league.
That’s a cruel place for a guy 6’0” with an average shot . BB IQ and work you butt off.

Bouk is a rare talent. He has also been injury prone during his career including Uconn. Let's not kid ourselves every NBA roster spot is filled with rare talent. Bouk was only occasionally dominant at UConn. Let's not overstate his ability to dominate at this level.

He won't be a starting talent until he gets a consistent 3 point jumper and bulks up a bit, but he was a lottery pick because of his offensive talent. Definitely better than 5 PPG on 34% and DNP-CDs every other game. Last year when he got good minutes, he played very well so we know the skill is there. He's a volume scorer so he can't come in for small stretches and perform well. Unfortunately he's played and acted himself out of the rotation of a VERY bad team. Needs to turn it around soon or that 2nd contract might not be there. Can't imagine many teams are looking to spend money on Hornets benchwarmers.

He's got a lot to clean up on and off the court. Let's hope we can keep sending guys to the league to attract recruits. I feel like Hawkins' game translates to the NBA much better, especially if he keeps getting bigger and stronger. Castle is also an interesting prospect, but don't want to get ahead of myself :)

For what it's worth, I seem to recall Rip being "in the car" when El Amin got arrested for buying weed in Hartford after the 99 Championship and before the draft...

And did Rip get in the slightest bit of trouble? Ever? NO.

After that year’s performance, the cop should have given them some weed from the station. Legends!

The thing about being a professional basketball player is that it takes at least some professionalism. I go back to his antics at Gampel last season as a fan. Many on here thought it was funny, many even thought it was cool, but to others (including myself) it showed a lack of the professionalism that any organization would want in an asset.

He has the physical talent. Maybe he has it in him to be professional and he’ll figure it out. But maybe he also just doesn’t have it in him. Many physically gifted young men just didn’t have what it took to be professional.
I think the incident with bouk passed out in his car with a loaded gun tells you everything you need to know. Either alcohol, drug or ment health issues affecting him.

Didn’t know a better place to put it. Congrats to JC for laying the foundation, as well as Glen, Jeff & Tyler for running with it

This Saint Joe's team is a joy to watch, dedicated players and a great coaching staff. They share the ball, play the best hardnosed defense, on the floor for loose balls and play with great determination. As fans, we are blessed with the best college basketball in the land. Recent recruiting shows several promising freshmen from across the country with even a fine prospect from Germany. This program is built for the long haul and has bloomed liked no other division 111. Hope they schedule U of H as they have the other top schools in the area.

You do realize that Lamb played ten years in the NBA, right ? He was never a "star" in the NBA, but a 10 year career is pretty significant. I would never assume anyone had that in them, least of all Bouknight
He signed some good contracts

Seeing Rip come up a lot in this thread so I figured this is the best place to post this funny short.

That’s funny stuff with Rips long nails lol. But tells you how important it is to keep moving looking to get open, and we know Rip and Ray had never ending motors. Hopefully Hawk is watching film of these 2.

Kirk Heinrich huh? Wow interesting.

Weirdly enough we couldn’t be where we are without Bouknight. His talent was a recruitment selling point in the turnaround years
I don't think that's the case - maybe for some players who aren't in Storrs anymore
I have been reading it is DH that lured the players to UConn
To be honest CV had a better overall success that senior year before Covid stole his thunder
But can't argue with a lottery pick. Thabeet?
Bouk had God given talent that became lost due to behavioral issues long before he arrived in Charlotte and using the team/organization as a scapegoat is ridiculous. People knew the issues before he even stepped on a court at UConn but nobody dared to take corrective action. Unfortunately/fortunately more people in the sport now realize what has been an ongoing tragedy.

It was funny. People are capable of recognizing his behavior is unprofessional and that particular incident was funny. Those same people could also have figured pretty quickly that he didn't have what it takes to be a solid NBA player. All of those things can be true at the same time.
It was funny (I was there with a teenager who loved it) & stupid at the same time. Thinking about it Ray Allen (consummate pro) would never ever do something like that.

And its possible that if Calhoun were still coaching he, quietly but frankly would have walked into student section and escorted Bouk out himself (which also would have been quite funny;).

42 minutes for Kemba given the state of his knee was irresponsible

tbh just play Kemba once and let him drop 30, then rest him for like 2 weeks so he can do it again later lol

Kemba with 32, including this bucket to send it to OT. Still got it.

Great for Kemba. But this is a great example of the lack of defense in today’s NBA. Blow-by and no rotational support.

When fans of the NBA claim that today’s players are better than the players from the ‘60s ‘70s and ‘80s…they’re full of bs.
