Undefeated teams, part 2 (merged)

Nope. Every eligible D1 team plays in a conference tournament at the end of the season. So even if you have a losing record, if you win your last game, by definition, you win your conference tournament and the AQ then gets you into the Big Dance and so on.

Again, the only exception to the win your last game = NCAA championship is if you win the WNIT championship.

Just some perspective - in the history of NCAA women's basketball there are 6 schools that have won at least 37 games in a row. Uconn is on that list (x5), SC (x2), and 4 other teams once. (see the bottom for why I am not listing LaTech's 54 games.)

The current 37 games ties ND's longest streak, if they win the next 3 they would tie TX's longest (40) at DePaul, if they win the following three they would tie Baylor's (42) and SC's 43 at Marquette, and if they win the next 3 they would tie TN (46) at home against Georgetown. And if they win through to the end of the regular season at St. John's they would own the top 5 longest winning streaks in NCAA history.

NB - the NCAA lists Louisiana Tech with a 54 game win streak, but the first 34 games in that streak were in the AIAW, followed by '20' games in the inaugural NCAA season. I am curious as to the '20' games as wikipedia list only 12 games before their loss in a total season of 22 games (including the NCAA title) while listing the head coaching record at 34-1. I suspect the missing 13 games were not NCAA teams.

NB2 - The NCAA adds AIAW and non-D1 games to coaching records, has added 34 AIAW games to the Lady Techsters 54 game winning streak, but does not list Sonya Hogg's LaTech AIAW undefeated season to the list of 10 undefeated seasons. Curious.
