Unbeatens Falling

Another day with only one unbeaten playing. Louisville played Tennesee Martin and won 91-56. So again, unbeatens list remains same as on Monday. (Posting #24)

A little tracking of number of unbeaten teams remaining:

I'll bet if you look at the schedules of most of the "unbeatens", you'll find they began their season in a BAKERY. Now they're beginning to play other teams that are in their class, talent and skill wise.

I like the @Scoop angle; contributing this progression:
  • Bakery (W)
  • Starbucks (W)
  • Little Sisters of the poor (W)
  • BriarPatch U (W)
  • Reality.....(L)

Kansas gets beaten by a not especially good Nebraska team tonight

Sagarin schedule rank added to the list of unbeatens. (Yeah, I know their numbers are suspect this time of year but still pretty indicative.)
Ball St. - 256
Fl St. - 127
Kansas - 315
Louisville - 9
Miss St - 73
Navy - 342
New Mexico - 218
USC - 206
Syracuse - 220
TN - 99
TX - 126
UC Davis - 251
Villanova - 71
West VA - 94
Uconn - 3

Two schools on this list stand out from the others - no idea how good teams like TX really are and we will not know until they actually play someone - best wins to date - Georgia and LSU neither of which are expected to be better than bottom dwellers in their conferences.

And for those questioning why Louisville is so highly ranked ... they are actually playing and beating other well regarded teams.
Yikes with the number for Navy. There are only 349 teams in Division 1, so Sagarin is saying that only 7 teams have played a weaker schedule.

Well Massey's algorithms show them to have played a powerhouse schedule of 311!!! (Kansas SOS at 280 so not much better - though they have now dropped out of the unbeatens)

New Mexico and Navy won their respective games yesterday, which nicely sets up a clash of unbeaten teams in Albuquerque on Sunday.

The Tennessee-Texas game is also guaranteed to reduce the unbeaten list by one.

Florida State gets a mild challenge on Sunday when they host Arizona State, but they will still be heavily favored.

OB: just now found this. VERY nice of you to add this to the thread. Jack Benny got such a kick out of this bit, and I re-watched with great delight and found it to be even better than I had remembered, which tells you all you need to know about my memory (SIGH).

This is the bit I was referring to in a previous comment---Si Sue Sigh---Benny's reaction to the man of a 1000 voices was precious, and made the skit work. Mel Blanc looks like nothing -but his body en capsules a dynamo of talent.

Florida State suffers its first loss to Texas today.

And right now UCF is leading UC Davis by 21 points at the half. This would be a huge win for UCF (and by extension for the AAC).

UCF wins 62- 55 One more unbeaten falls. Down to 8 in DI WCBB

Wednesday morning: Still 8 Unbeaten. 15 teams with one loss.
Unbeaten count not likely to change today.
Louisville vs Air Force
Miss St vs UNLV

Single loss couple of possible changes.

Villanova lost at Creighton tonight, its first loss of the season.
Huge win for Creighton, which seems to be getting better with every game.
The Big East race could be a lot of fun this year. Quite a bit of parity at the top.

Louisville survives a nail-biter at Georgia Tech, on the strength of Durr's 38 points.

West Virginia survives a tough challenge at TCU, playing without two key players.
The Mountaineers will play at Texas on Sunday.

No change from 6 "unbeatens" yesterday.
Now 13 singe loss (USC lost to CAL)

On the men's side, 2 of the 3 remaining unbeaten teams lost today: #10 TCU by a point to #12 Oklahoma, and #1 Villanova fell to a hot-shooting Butler team.

That leaves #3 Arizona State as the lone unbeaten, and the Sun Devils face a huge challenge in Tucson tonight, at #17 Arizona.

Can we get a gif or meme of a Chippewa celebrating?

Sorry, but thats not in my job description

I can only post pics of losing team's mascots :p:D:);)

In my opinion, Villanova was/is a weak #1 ranked team.... a paper tiger :p The best teams they had faced were Tennessee and Gonzaga. Hopefully the Sun Devils can pull out a win tonight.. and move to #1.
