I'll bet if you look at the schedules of most of the "unbeatens", you'll find they began their season in a BAKERY. Now they're beginning to play other teams that are in their class, talent and skill wise.
Mostly, there just are not enough good teams yet. I mean LMU and USC being unbeaten after 6 is no big deal.

Sagarin schedule rank added to the list of unbeatens. (Yeah, I know their numbers are suspect this time of year but still pretty indicative.)
Ball St. - 256
Fl St. - 127
Kansas - 315
Louisville - 9
Miss St - 73
Navy - 342
New Mexico - 218
USC - 206
Syracuse - 220
TN - 99
TX - 126
UC Davis - 251
Villanova - 71
West VA - 94
Uconn - 3

Two schools on this list stand out from the others - no idea how good teams like TX really are and we will not know until they actually play someone - best wins to date - Georgia and LSU neither of which are expected to be better than bottom dwellers in their conferences.

And for those questioning why Louisville is so highly ranked ... they are actually playing and beating other well regarded teams.

I cant wait for conference season to start for some of these teams.

Southern Cal has TAMU next (12/15) so that will be a test for them prior to the PAC12. I look for the RPI for the PAC12 to be high again this year. Cant wait to see how they separate themselves as the season progresses.

West Virginia could go to 13-0 because they don't really get a challenge until Texas on 12/31.

As far as Texas they have Tennessee (12/10) and FSU (12/17) before conference season starts. If the Longhorns beat WVU on 12/31 then they could be undefeated when they meet UCONN on 01/15. Interesting.

Villanova is an interesting prospect. Unless they get beat in the BIG East (DePaul or Marquette??) they have no ranked teams on the schedule.

Louisville could go into January undefeated with a match up with ND on 1/11 in Louisville.

Syracuse battles Mississippi State on 12/21. Both could be undefeated on that date.

I believe there was only one unbeaten playing yesterday - BALL STATE. They beat Purdue 66-60 so today's list is same as yesterday.

Another day with only one unbeaten playing. Louisville played Tennesee Martin and won 91-56. So again, unbeatens list remains same as on Monday. (Posting #24)

I like the @Scoop angle; contributing this progression:
  • Bakery (W)
  • Starbucks (W)
  • Little Sisters of the poor (W)
  • BriarPatch U (W)
  • Reality.....(L)

Yikes with the number for Navy. There are only 349 teams in Division 1, so Sagarin is saying that only 7 teams have played a weaker schedule.

Well Massey's algorithms show them to have played a powerhouse schedule of 311!!! (Kansas SOS at 280 so not much better - though they have now dropped out of the unbeatens)

New Mexico and Navy won their respective games yesterday, which nicely sets up a clash of unbeaten teams in Albuquerque on Sunday.

The Tennessee-Texas game is also guaranteed to reduce the unbeaten list by one.

Florida State gets a mild challenge on Sunday when they host Arizona State, but they will still be heavily favored.

OB: just now found this. VERY nice of you to add this to the thread. Jack Benny got such a kick out of this bit, and I re-watched with great delight and found it to be even better than I had remembered, which tells you all you need to know about my memory (SIGH).

This is the bit I was referring to in a previous comment---Si Sue Sigh---Benny's reaction to the man of a 1000 voices was precious, and made the skit work. Mel Blanc looks like nothing -but his body en capsules a dynamo of talent.

Florida State suffers its first loss to Texas today.

And right now UCF is leading UC Davis by 21 points at the half. This would be a huge win for UCF (and by extension for the AAC).
