UEFA Euro Championship 2024

We'll see. I have no rooting interest, but Mbappe missed an excellent scoring opportunity, and now it looks like he's sitting out next one with his broken nose. They did play an excellent brand of bend-don't-break defense.

I love when people overreact to something they see in the Group stage.

What did you say when Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia?

Another thing you won’t see in the regional confederation tournament.

Host country usually does pretty well.

Wish that would hold true for 2026 WC. :D

Not if we blow the prime years of our best crop of players ever on Berhalter . . .

Denmark looking feisty. England a bit lazy in 1st half. They'll need a JC halftime speech.

None of them are passing very well. Does England know they are wearing white? And what is TAA doing??? Anything??

Take TAA off, move Bellingham to the 8, Folden to the 10 and put on a LW. (whoever)

JC couldn't coach this sport. He'd start yanking players 40 seconds in and would be out of substitutions by the five minute mark.

Spain vs Italy. Hope this is a good one.

This version of Italy is having trouble creating and finishing chances
That game yesterday was just dreadful for Italy. They looked timid most of the game. I doubt the match against Croatia goes easier. So far, I'm not impressed by the lineups or Spalletti's tactics.

Germany gets the header equalizer against Switzerland in the 92nd minute with 2 minutes remaining and Fox goes to a useless weather update. Same thing happened yesterday. They spent 15 minutes talking about a thunderstorm warning as if we have never had a thunderstorm before. What a bunch of maroons.

The European Championship is sooo much better than the World Cup. While it does not include the best from South America (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia), we don’t get the dregs from Asia, Oceania, Africa, Concacaf, et al.
Or USA

Did they do that to you in the 99th minute of Hungary/Scotland?

We had 20 minutes of "potentially dangerous cells" that pre-empted much of the back nine of the Travelers. Wasn't even Allegheny County. All the surrounding counties with trailer parks and meth operations where a tornado would classify as "home improvement".

Last minute (or quite literally last several seconds of stoppage time) for Italy to equalize against Croatia and advance to the next round. I'm glad they move on, but this team is still playing horridly.

It has been extremely disappointing, but now it is knockout round and ugly can advance.

I love world caliber football, but never knowing when a game will end sucks.

What a gut punch for Modric
He's a good player, and I do feel for him. Was watching the game with my son and saw Modric biting his shirt as the game was about to end. You could sense his anticipation/fear. I really wish Croatia had beaten France in the World Cup final a few years ago... That wild have given him a great trophy and shock the world that a small European country child upstage a larger one.

Poland v France. Wow. Lewandowski very lucky retaking pk because keeper came off line. Same approach. Scores off post. 1-1 with 10 remaining

How is england this boring with Saka Foden Kane Bellingham? They fool me every tournament

Is there a team more boring to watch than the USA? England, with its leaky defense, wayward passes, and passive offence.

Not lucky. Keeper had a huge (illegal) advantage jumping the line. Break the rules, suffer the consequences.

It wasn't a huge advantage, the keeper's back foot barely came off the line just before the kick. Lewandoski stuttered and almost stopped twice. By the time he kicked the ball he was basically standing still and didn't have too much on it. The keeper made a very good save. Somewhat lucky on the second shot because Lewandoski took the same stutter approach to the same side and the keeper guessed right both times. The ball bounced off the post and in, saving him from missing the shot twice. I don't think he meant to cut it that close.
