I know of a handful of such projects within the northeast and numerous other projects throughout the rust belt where anywhere from $10mm to $45mm (per project) was funded by federal grants through DEEP. If the cost of doing this for the site work at Rentschler Field wasn't almost fully subsidized, someone didn't do their job (which is entirely possible).

The funding will support planning for a major Gampel Pavilion renovation, “with the goal of modernizing the facility and creating more revenue-generating” opportunities within the arena, which opened in 1990 and has 171,000 square feet of space, according to the university. <-

For 1.1 million in construction cost, I'd like to think we would get more than just upgraded seating and Wi-Fi. It will be interesting to see the details on what's being proposed. I'd love to see an exterior concourse, improved bathrooms, and concessions. An exterior concourse would also allow for additional seating.

$625 million was approved.

UConn 2000 infrastructure program extension
“In May 2024, legislators approved a $4.4 billion bond bill that includes a four-year extension of the UConn 2000 infrastructure program. The extension includes $625 million in new bonding, and UConn is required to raise an additional $100 million in philanthropic commitments and gifts by June 30, 2031. The funding will be used to update STEM infrastructure, address deferred maintenance, and renovate Gampel Pavilion and athletic facilities.”

Millions. Billions. Those Patoni tiles are priceless. You will not find them at Cameron. Or at the Rupp. Or even at the Civic Center. They are irreplaceable.

Well at least we know the project will be done quickly. No way someone from Scottsdale, AZ or Charlotte, NC is going to want to spend an entire winter in Storrs, CT. :)

Give Gampel an appropriate farewell and build something designed this century. Or something worthy of any architectural significance. Just get rid of it. It's not like it has any redeeming qualities like the Bridge on the River Kwai

 
Email went out to season ticket holders around 3 pm. It looks like prices are increasing between 3% - 13% depending on location. They also announced price increases for 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 seasons. Lower bowl seats will be cushioned at Gampel (except for student section). Premium lower bowl sideline (center 4 sections on either side of court) will be 3 - 4 inches wider. Not much detail about XL Center seating.

Seat selection process will be May 19 - June 13. Single timeslot covers all locations. Not sure how they determine that if your ranking is different for different venues.

by 2027-28 season, all in cost per lower sideline seat per game will be $271 at XL and $293 at Gampel
