IIRC, they started the preseason at 3rd or 4th. The USCHO had them first in HE preseason. And they just got an awesome goalie to come out of retirement.

Confused. Why are they doing a shootout if it ends in a tie? Shoutouts are done on conference games to determine points. Why are they done in non conference games if it’s not to determine the W-L? What do we get for winning the shootout if the game ends in a tie?

Probably part of the contractual agreement to play the games. It doesn't count, of course, but both coaches probably wanted the practice for their teams.
