Pat Gallagher gets the start today, and it will be interesting to see how he does. Gallagher has been trending upward in terms of improved performance. It would certainly be nice to see that continue. Having a reliable Gallagher in the starting rotation is a big step in a potential Husky run in the Big East tournament, and for that matter in the NCAA Tournament should UConn get into it. Having three basically reliable starting pitchers is whole lot better than just having two once these post season tournaments start. For that matter, in the post game interview yesterday, Coach Penders was sounding pretty positive about Gallagher's improvement over the the course of the season.
 
Bottom 2nd, a scoreless inning for Gallagher after hitting a batter. Gallagher with 2 strikeouts that inning, he is at 29 pitches.
 
Top 3rd, scoreless inning for UConn after a 2 out double by Chris Winkel.
 
Bottom 3rd, a one out triple drives in a run for Villanova to tie the game at 1. A run scores on a ground out to make 2-1 Villanova going to the top of the 4th.

Bottom 4th, Villanova goes down in order. Gallagher at 55 pitches.
 
Bottom 5th, Gallagher strikes out the first two batters on his way to a 1-2-3 shutdown inning. 4-2 UConn. Gallagher at 74 pitches.
 
Bottom 6th, with runners at 1st and 2nd and one out, Gallagher is relieved by Randy Polonia. RBI double makes it 4-3.
 
Polonia follows with a strikeout and a ground out to end the 6th, 4-3 UConn.
 
Top 7th, scoreless inning for UConn. There have been some long stretches of quiet for the UConn bats today.
 
Bottom 7th, Polonia with a 1-2-3 inning with 2 strikeouts. 4-3 UConn.
