Pat Winkel follows the Stock homer with a triple. 2 hits and a walk on the game, is he emerging from his slump? That is the question, we'll have to wait for future games for the answer.

Bottom 9th, Justin Willis starts the inning on the mound with the 5 run lead.

9 one run losses this season. 3 one run wins...is this going to cost us? Do we need to win out and then win the Big East tournament to get a regional invite?

Need to finish in Top 4 of Big East to qualify for BE tournament and then win the Big East Tournament to get into the field of 64. An at-large bid is a loooong shot @ this point.

In my mind an at large bid for UConn has been a long shot for a while now, given how difficult it is to sweep a conference series in college baseball, whether it is 4 games or even 3 games. What Fairfield has done this season is just remarkable.

Also, in terms of making the Big East tournament, tomorrow is a big game. If UConn wins tomorrow, I suspect they might clinch a spot in the Big East tournament.

Losing games in the late innings seems to be an affliction affecting both the baseball and softball teams. Softball is now out if of the NCAA's; baseball most likely must win the Big East tourney or.........................sayonara.

Pat Gallagher gets the start today, and it will be interesting to see how he does. Gallagher has been trending upward in terms of improved performance. It would certainly be nice to see that continue. Having a reliable Gallagher in the starting rotation is a big step in a potential Husky run in the Big East tournament, and for that matter in the NCAA Tournament should UConn get into it. Having three basically reliable starting pitchers is whole lot better than just having two once these post season tournaments start. For that matter, in the post game interview yesterday, Coach Penders was sounding pretty positive about Gallagher's improvement over the the course of the season.

Bottom 2nd, a scoreless inning for Gallagher after hitting a batter. Gallagher with 2 strikeouts that inning, he is at 29 pitches.

Top 3rd, scoreless inning for UConn after a 2 out double by Chris Winkel.

Bottom 3rd, a one out triple drives in a run for Villanova to tie the game at 1. A run scores on a ground out to make 2-1 Villanova going to the top of the 4th.

... to think I left my Brioschi @ home when I left for work today.

Bottom 4th, Villanova goes down in order. Gallagher at 55 pitches.

Bottom 5th, Gallagher strikes out the first two batters on his way to a 1-2-3 shutdown inning. 4-2 UConn. Gallagher at 74 pitches.
