Interesting. The UConn baseball schedule is showing a three game weekend with Villanova. UConn baseball just tweeted that out as well.

You would expect that to happen, considering Villanova has only played 3 game conference weekend series, not the 4 game conference series that have been long on the schedule. The interesting thing is that the Villanova athletics website is still showing a 4 game weekend against UConn, with a doubleheader on Saturday. Somehow I doubt Villanova is exactly speedy about updating its baseball information, but sooner or later you would expect the game info will change.

-> The UConn baseball team (13-15, 7-3 BIG EAST) head back on the road to take on Villanova in a three-game series at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth Meeting.

The series has been moved to three games because the Wildcats have not had enough healthy players to play any four-game series in the BIG EAST this season. <-

-> The Huskies are 37-24 all-time against Villanova and face off for the first time since the Huskies beat the Wildcats, 7-6, at Villanova Ballpark in 2014.

The UConn starting rotation will feature Austin Peterson on Friday, Ben Casparius on Saturday and Pat Gallagher in the series finale.

All three games will have live audio on MIXLR and a paid video streams Nova Nation All Access. <-

Would be a great series to get three quality starts and set us us for a bullpen day midweek against Rhodey.

Considering how they used Joe Simeone in the St. John's game last Sunday, going 2+ innings and pulling him the minute there was trouble in in the 3rd inning, it would not surprise me if Simeone gets the "start" on Tuesday against Rhode Island, and very possibly the "start" on the Saturday game against Seton Hall next weekend. I would think it unlikely that Simeone will throw a lot of pitches on Tuesday if they pull him before trouble really explodes on him.

Chris Winkel moving up to the 2nd spot in the order just shows how completely he has turned his season around. He went from being utterly awful at the bat at the beginning of the year to where he is now, hitting over .300 with a goodly amount of power (tied with Crawford at 9 for the team lead in homers), plus taking more than his fair share of walks. A complete turnaround, that's for sure, he's having a terrific year now.

Of course, having written that, Chris Winkel strikes out in the first inning. UConn goes down in order in the the top of the 1st.

Bottom 1st, Peterson walks the lead off hitter, but a double play enables him to face the minimum. No score.

Chris Jones was talking about how UConn tried to get Villanova to play the fourth game of this series next Tuesday. Villanova said no.

He also mentioned Villanova only has 12 pitchers. This pitcher is their ace. Be selective at the plate and make the guy work. Sooner we get to the bullpen it sounds like the better off we will be. So far, we are swinging early.

Both teams swinging early, may be quickest game ever. Their lineup averages are atrocious. Can't lose to these guys.

The Villanova pitcher Graceffo has 12 walks in 68 innings, and a 1.32 ERA. He's one of the top starting pitchers in the Big East. This is going to be a tough game.
