Top 1st, UConn goes down quickly in order. In other words, a typical first inning for the Huskies, they just don't score much early in games this season.

This strike zone is enormous - a couple of those inside "strikes" to Browny were the stuff of a Little League strike zone. Hope it helps Casparius go deep.

And big ups to Browny for not getting fazed by it and then coming through with a key hit

Bottom 2nd, Casparius with 3 strikeouts, with a Christian Fedko infield error thrown in. 2-0 UConn.

Both Chris Jones and Coach Penders in interviews has talked about infield defense being one of the biggest weaknesses of this team. UConn could certainly use better play up the middle next season.

And maybe a better infield defensive coach too

I know I'm new to UConn baseball but I just don't understand the hype around CFed. Don't get me wrong, he isn't a bad player but people seem to love this guy. It seems like he is a great teammate and must be to be named a captain. But production wise, he doesn't knock my socks off on offense or defense.

Offensively he can be quite good, but he has been slumping of late. Defense has always been a question mark with him. If you ask me, Bushling is similar at shortstop. It's tough to have two similar players like this in the middle of the infield.

Bottom 3rd, with the audio out on Chris Jones, Villanova ties the game with a 2 run homer.

Makes you really miss the days when UConn had Prato and Woodworth in the middle of the infield.

Earlier this season and in '18, '19, '20, Fedko was consistently one of the clutchest hitters on the team. This is the first time I've seen him look this frustrated at the dish.

Bottom 4th, UConn turns a double play to bring about a scoreless inning. I believe Chris Jones said UConn now has infield 14 double plays on the season, and that is certainly not a lot for the number of games UConn has played, and it helps point to the weakness of the middle infield defense. UConn up 4-2.

Top 5th, after two outs, UConn loads the bases with two walks with a Crawford single in between. However, Pat Winkel flies out to end the inning. 4-2 UConn.

Bottom 5th, Casparius with a 1-2-3 inning. Casparius at 60 pitches. Casparius did get hit by a hit ball on the 2nd out, so that may bear watching.

Top 6th, UConn with another 2 out rally attempt with Bushling getting a 2 out double. Pitching change for Villanova. Kyler Fedko reaches on an infield 3B error. Chris Winkel follows with a 3 run homer!! 7-2 UConn. Winkel now with 10 homers on the season to lead the Huskies.

Bottom 6th, Casparius with a scoreless inning. 6 strikeouts for Casparius, he is at 77 pitches.

Top 7th, a scoreless inning for UConn. On the plus side, the slumping Pat Winkel and Christian Fedko both had 2 out singles, but nothing came of it.

Bottom 7th, Casparius gets the first 2 outs, then gives up a ground rule double. Kenny Haus coming in to pitch. Aside from the 3rd inning, a very nice outing for Casparius. Haus gives up a 2 run homer to Rotondo, his second homer of the day. 7-4 UConn going to the top of the 8th.

Bottom 8th, a lead off single for Villanova, Haus gets a fly out for the first out. Pitching change, with Justin Willis coming in to pitch for UConn. Willis gets out of the inning with no runs scoring. 7-4 UConn.
