-> The UConn baseball team resumes its longest rivalry with Rhode Island this weekend in Storrs with a three-game series. The Huskies and Rams first started playing in the first year of UConn baseball in 1896. The Huskies (7-11) are 116-68-5 all-time against Rhode Island and will play them once more after this weekend during a midweek game in May. <-

-> This is the first weekend series against a Northeast opponent since winning three-of-four from UMass Lowell to open the 2017 season. <-

All home games will be streamed on UConnhuskies.com and audio for broadcasts will be on 91.7 FM WHUS for games in Storrs.

Rhode Island's current RPI is 18 / UConn is 26

I know Medic is just quoting the press release, but in what world does the definition of the "Northeast" U.S. not include Philadelphia, where we just finished playing last weekend?

->Projected Starters:

Friday: RHP Ben Casparius (1-2, 3.16 ERA) vs. RHP Ryan Twitchell (2-0, 1.47 ERA)

Saturday: RHP Joe Simeone (0-2, 7.30 ERA) vs. RHP Mike Webb (2-0, 4.13 ERA)

RHP Austin Peterson (1-1, 4.41 ERA) vs. RHP Trystan Levesque (0-0, 6.17 ERA) <-

The stats for the UConn pitchers above do not match up with the stats listed on the UConn baseball website. I'm guessing the stats listed above do not include the games from last weekend against Saint Joseph's.

I'm sure someone has pointed this out, but UConn is in the middle of a three weekend run of playing Atlantic 10 teams. UConn also played Davidson of that conference in the weekend tournament at Coastal Carolina.

I just pulled them out of the UConnBlog article - one would think they would be safe. Teach me (again)! 🙃

I assumed that is where that info came from, since you used quotation marks. The only reason I really noticed is that I posted Austin Peterson's stats after his Saint Joe's game, and I clearly remembered that his ERA was just above 3.00, not above 4.00 as the UConnBlog article had.

This is a HUGE weekend for Joe Simeone... he needs to get back on track and solidify himself as the number 2 starter in the rotation

Looking forward to hearing what Chris Jones says during the game and perhaps Coach Penders in the post game interview have to say about Christian Fedko at D.H. and Andy Hague at 2B.

Top 1st, Casparius faces the minimum after picking off a runner. No score.

.-.
Bottom 1st, scoreless inning for the UConn batters after a one out Kyler Fedko single.

WHUS and Chris Jones is sounding much better than it was last inning.

By the way, Randy Lavigne, who was on the UConn baseball and basketball teams in the late 1970's, is in on the broadcast with Chris Jones.

Top 2nd, Casparius with a quick 1-2-3 inning, striking out the last two batters.

.-.
Bottom 2nd, back to back no out doubles by Christian Fedko and Kevin Ferrer gives UConn a 1-0 lead. Stock follows with a double of his own off the glove of the second baseman to drive in Ferrer. 2-0, no out.

Top 3rd, Casparius retires the side in order. Casparius at 34 pitches, so he is being pretty efficient today so far.

.-.
Top 4th, perhaps I spoke too soon about Casparius being efficient today. With 1 out, he walks two hitters, then a single drives in a run, then gives up a 3 run homer. URI with the 4-2 lead.

Always amazes me when a pitcher is cruising along and then bam - they can’t locate pitches.

Ugh. Get those bats going.

Top 5th, Casparius gets some help from a double play turned by the UConn infield, something that hasn't happened much this season. But then some two out hits and walks result in another run for URI. 5-2 URI going to the bottom of the 5th. Casparius now at 92 pitches, so the efficiency has definitely disappeared the last couple of innings.
