UConn to open season at Barclays Center

One is close and the tickets will be sold with the season tickets. The other is a separate purchase and is travel to Brooklyn.

It's unfortunate but that won't be a huge game from a basketball standpoint. It's not like NCSU was jammed and that was the Garden not against a home football game.

This was a down year for UConn basketball; no national media coverage, no tournament, and early on, we weren't expected to be that good. Not to mention, we had a good amount of fans at that game; at least 8,000-9,000. And like I said before, we weren't ranked, no buzz with the team that couldn't go to the postseason and wasn't expected to be that good. Next year's team will have legitimate Final Four buzz, and will likely be ranked top 15 going into the season. That makes a difference.

I thought the aircraft game was a joke being on the same night as a home football game.

There's no way UConn brings more than 1,000 people to Brooklyn as everyone will be at the Louisville game.

In what could have been a great opportunity for exposure in NYC, were set up to fail.

I get that this was probably out of wardes hands (in terms of a date) but how did Barclays center want/agree to this?!

Warde: "Well, its the same night as a home football game'"

BC: "It's ok, Im sure you have lots of high-profile teams on your schedule next year being in a conference with UCF and SMU'"

Warde: "...what time November 9?"

Uh, why is that funny? 40,000 people who pay money to go out and support UConn will be at the rent. To boot, about half of those people have season tickets, so it's not even a question of this or that when you already bought "that".

There are a lot of UConn basketball fans who don't care about UConn football. I think that fact is unfortunate, but it is reality. A lot of it will depend on how good the football team is. People will be more likely to travel to Brooklyn to see a fresh and exciting basketball team if we're subjected to more of what we've seen the last two years in football.

If we're a national school like we say we are, we should be able to pack the Rent and bring people to Brooklyn. If we don't have more than 40,000 fans, we're ducked anyway.

I paid 100 bucks for four at mid court in the 25th row between games. There was no one in the two rows in front of me. NCSU has many fans as UConn did anyway. It was nowhere near 'not quite a sell out'.

Exactly. They already bought the football tickets. That gives it a leg up over the basketball game anyway.

Is it crazy to think this could be a huge opportunity to show the higher-ups in the B1G that we own New York? We need to fill Barclays Center and show them that if they want the New York market, they want UConn.

Good Luck, we can't fill the Garden, and you think that we will fill Barclay's. Brooklyn is like a foreign country to people in CT.

I hope I am wrong, and I will be there.

Folks, we haven't filled up in NYC for early season games in seasons when UConn was excellent. In 2004, there were relatively few UConn fans in MSG for a November game. I was always more impressed by the away attendance at BE games against St. John's and even way back against Seton Hall at the Meadowlands. Lots of Husky fans.

I was also at the NC State game. It was not a sellout but i would say there were at least 15,000 in MSG. I think part of the problem was we played the second game of the double header. A 9 PM start on a Tuesday is rough...thats a guaranteed 1 or 2 o'clock in the morning arrival back home to CT and people obviously have work/school the next morning. The good thing about this Maryland game at the Barclay's is that its on a Friday night. Ive been wanting to check out the Barclays and this will be the perfect opportunity to see my first game there.

Fair enough, I was way off. Still, a 9:30 tip on a Tuesday night for a team with zero postseason buzz...I'd expect this game can get at least 16,000.
