UConn Summer League 2025

Watching 2 games at the same time

Bucks vs Cavs, Andre has not looked good..he has to become an offensive threat soon. I don't think Milwaukee will bring him into the regular rotation unless he does

Mavs vs Spurs, Dylan Harper and Cooper Flagg are both looking really good. Cooper has missed a lot of shots but is living at the FT line. Harper just keeps making plays. Fun game

Bigger concern is will AJ actually make the roster, him being out the rotation is a given at this point with the wings ahead of him. Given Doc's comments about him when interviewed by the broadcast team during the game I'd imagine the Bucks coaching staff/front office wanted to see more offensively from him and its still more of the same. If he can't get any type of game off as a 3rd year player in this setting then it's about to get dark.

Unfortunately think we may be getting close to the end for Andre his offensive game just hasn't gotten there. Electric player but in todays NBA he doesnt fit, really hope I'm wrong

Andre doesn't cost the Bucks anything to cut. Writing seems to be on the wall.

McNeeley hits 1 of 2 FTs to go up 2, Kalkbrenner gets the game winning block on Judah Mintz. 14/5/2 but not great shooting percentage (4-11 FG although 3-8 3P)

Kalkbrenner and Liam were getting in each other's faces hyping each other up afterwards. Seems they really like playing with each other lol

This sounds sort of awful to say, especially as he’s one of my favorite recent Huskies, but the fact that NBA coaches after a few years can’t coax any sort of offensive game out of AJax makes Dan Hurley moving him to the dunker’s spot and getting anything out of him on that end that much more impressive. I was one of those idiots who kept wondering why they didn’t lock him in the gym to make him shoot all offseason or change this or that in his game on offense but it’s getting more obvious he just really can’t for whatever reason. Real shame as he’s a great kid and a heck of an athlete

And even if he doesn't he'll be playing overseas. There's no chance he's gonna stop playing basketball and become a grad assistant
Yeah, I know he would go to Europe if he does not stick on a NBA roster, no he isn't just going to stop playing basketball, but I would like him to be on a NBA roster.

Players in Europe depending on the league they go to and what their role and production would be, especially 1st and 2nd scoring options, can make good money.

AJ is being misplayed on the wing. Put him at the 4 in dnkers sport and let Him Wreck havoc defensively.

He isnt a candidate for europe as they value scoring.

Jackson is a bit role player on a good nba team. You can't ask him for anything offensive, he wont give it to you.

He has been awful in these last two games. Today, in 20 minutes: 2 pts, 1 reb, 3 assists on 0-3 on FG's, 0-1 on 3's and 2-2 on FT's.
I didn't see any of today's game but yesterday he ran around on defense but I don't recall him shutting down his man and then he stood in the corners on offense waiting for the passes that never came.
It's almost like he's afraid to make a mistake or miss a shot so he's passive. So sad to see a guy who played with abandon at UConn but now seems like he has no confidence. His teammates and the members of the other team seem to sense it

It's painful to watch. He's regressed if anything and looks lost. Like he doesn't know his role or is playing with no confidence.

Bouk and Cam going at it in the late game tonight. Solid start for both through a half.

Yang isn’t bad and probably not the reach people said he was at 16 but he might have worse conditioning than Clingan did to start last year and also can’t rebound to save his life. Good offensive skill though.

Cam looks awesome. He had back to back 3/4 court passes for layups in the 4th quarter, directly taking advantage of Bouknight's lack of effort and court awareness. I've been really unimpressed with Bouk tonight. He was bringing the energy in the first half but he's been completely lethargic in the second half, particularly on the defensive end. Not fighting through screens, not paying attention to his defender.

And on offense, he's been playing way too unselfishly for the most part. He's had wide open looks that he's passed on, even once when he had gotten into the lane and no one was around him. He also settled for a contested 3 midway through the 4th as Memphis was pulling away. Still out up 15 points but I thought it was a mostly uninspired effort. Greenberg hit the nail on the head late in the broadcast... What kind of player is he? He lacks an NBA identity.

He got pulled from the game with like 90 seconds left and the Blazers went on a run. His +/- was -13 despite a good shooting night (4/6 and 5/5 from the line) and 15/2/4 stat line.

For Bouk, ignoring the defensive issues, I think he's playing the role they are asking of him. Nothing more, nothing less. He's played the same way two games in a row. If they wanted him to do something else, I think he'd adjust, or at least try to do so.

Amazing in all these years AJX has not been able to discover any offensive game whatsoever. At this point it seems like there is a chronic mental block that he’s just never going to get over. Never really seen anything like it. It’s like the Mackey Sasser yips for basketball. Even in the dunk contest once he missed a couple, shoulders slouched and he looked completely lost. Kid just loses confidence fast and can’t mentally recoup.

I might be an AJ apologist but I have no doubt he has a place in the league even with his limitations. In my mind, he is the deluxe version of Gary Payton Jr but he has to be on a team with shooters because he will always be a non shooter while on the floor.

AJax shoots 38% from three for his career and shot 39.5% last season. He's got a start taking more shots honestly. I would assume most are corner threes but he's got to be reliable there and he will play for 10+ years.

Grizzlies vs. Blazers was fun, especially the 4th quarter. Cam contributed an early floater, a great cut into a layup, and 2 full court passes for free buckets after noticing Bouk fall asleep on defense (part of a 25-5 Memphis run to put it away). Bouknight hit a 3, a fast break layup, and had an assist for another 3, but looked rough down the stretch getting cooked by Jaylen Wells and getting stripped in the backcourt to give up an open dunk

Bouknight took over for a few possessions in the second quarter. Found Yang for an open dunk on a pick&roll, then got the ball off a cut and whipped a BEAUTIFUL pass for an open 3, then just brought the ball up and just took it himself for an iso and1. Overall similar game to his first game - picked his spots for an efficient offensive game but inconsistent energy/focus. Have noticed he starts the game locked in, and then as the game goes on he loses focus defensively and his body language gets worse. Final line 15pts/4ast/2reb/2stl on 4-6 shooting (2-4 3P, 5-5 FT)

Cam also played pretty similarly to previous games. He's so good at finding the right place to be and then making a play out of it. Always moving, always under control. Final line 17/4/4 on 6-15

Newton looked better. First quarter he missed 2 threes right after coming in and had a beautiful pass for a Jesse Edwards layup. In 2Q he had a steal and a nice fast break pass, but defense made a great play to block the layup. Later hit 2 threes in 2 possessions. Pretty quiet 3Q, missed a 3 but had a nice and1. 4Q was mostly when the game was already over but had a few nice passes and hit a 3. Final line 12 points, 3 assists on 4-11 and 3-8 on threes. 1 of the threes and 2 of the twos were end-of-shot clock situations where he had to get a shot up

Not all 38%s are the same. 38% on wide-open corner 3s isn’t great.

But as others have pointed out, it’s not his 3-point shooting that’s the problem as much as his reluctance to shoot or take the ball to the rim. Sometimes you just can’t reach aggressiveness.

As for the poster who referenced Mackey Sasser and said he’d never seen anything like AJ, I’ll see you and raise you Ben Simmons. Who went from an All-NBA player to a guy who won’t try a layup.
