UConn Summer League 2025

I think their new front office is actually pretty good. They’ve had a solid offseason.

Liam was so awesome tonight.
Hope so, they lucked out having Liam drop to them but they were smart enough to take him. Kalk is a good second round pick for his defense, offense will be problematic for him but a huge big who guards the rim and gets alleyoops is nice to have. It would've been a home run draft for them if they took Ace Bailey or Tre Johnson.

I think Kon will be a good/solid player but athletically things are going to be tough for him especially on defense. At least Charlotte is taking basketball players instead of just athletes now.

And even if he doesn't he'll be playing overseas. There's no chance he's gonna stop playing basketball and become a grad assistant
“When he’s done playing.” I didn’t say tomorrow.

At this point, I'm not sure you even worry about his three-point shot itself, but more on his lack of aggression/attack.

I know it's not a super huge sample but he is 47-122, or 38.5% over the last two years from three. Some of those misses were terrible, but his overall shooting % isn't a problem.

He needs to attack the rim more.
90% of the time on offense he wasn't moving. Just camped in one of the corners and his team ignored him. It's like he's been criticized so much about his inability to make three's that making three's is all he wants to do to prove himself.

Gotcha, felt like that was the insinuation with saying a GA. I always associate grad assistants with guys straight out of undergrad and not mid-30s but I suppose it's a possibility

From above posting:

" Non-UConn note about that game. The star matchup was Ace Bailey vs VJ Edgecombe. VJ (27pts on 47%) decisively beat Ace (8pts on 23%)"

From a Uconn point of view our coaching staff were after Edgecombe. Looks like they saw his frightening potential as a one and done (#3 lottery pick) . I didn't know that his dad is Ron Harper who had a very good NBA career:

Esgecombe's dad is Ron Harper???

I thought the Harper kid from Rutger's was Ron's kid.

Bouknight having a solid game so far.
I know he’s had his issues and his antics have left me shaking my head but I don’t think I root for anyone harder than Bouk to turn it around. He was our first glimmer of having NBA level talent again after the vomit inducing later Ollie years.

Just spent 40 minutes at 9am watching a Spanish replay of the Blazers/Warriors Summer League game. I really need to find a hobby..

Thoughts on Bouknight -
  • Bouknight has finally learned that his role can't be isolation scorer and nothing else. Showed a very well rounded game alternating between on-ball and off-ball
  • He was picking guys up full court (was a team strategy), crashing the boards hard, was a big threat on fast breaks, even had a mean block in the 1st quarter that turned into a layup. 4 assists but also 2 passes that turned into FTs
  • Did show some old habits towards the end of the first half and early in the 4th (although to be fair the game was over by then). Got lazy on defense, wasted a possession with a dribble combo stepback 3 that missed, few bad TOs and instances of bad body language. But overall solid game
  • Not sure his contract situation (exhibit 10, 2 way, G League only?). But he's in a tough spot. At the end of the day he is a 4th year former lottery pick that averaged double digit scoring in the G League last year. So while he's shown A LOT of growth expanding his game, I'm not sure if the Blazers expect him to play a veteran glue guy role or if they expect him to dominate. Really rooting for him regardless

Liam would of went 4th had cooper flagg chose uconn. I like Kon but DUKE brand is really powerful and i see why they always get top 5 players. Liam will be will better with nba space. His decision processing speed was promising

I believe Bouk is an exhibit 10, and the Blazers plan to keep him as a integral piece of their G-league team with a chance for him to play some games in the NBA if the situation warrants it. Will get $50,000 salary if he stays with the G-league team for more than 60 days; can be converted to a 2-way before the start of the regular season.

Guess I coulda said new staff position or “player development coach” of some kind. Figured GA coaches are usually staff under the assistant coaches. Was Diarra a GA for only his first year after graduating?

I don't think he's eligible for a two-way because he's already amassed 3 years of NBA service.
