Gutsy performance by Stanley today, quality outing for the young man. Threw a lot of pitches! Let’s get some offense against the bullpen!!
 
Also noticed a little earlier on the drop third strike that Maycock appeared to have stepped on the first baseman’s foot and he didn’t like that
 
Bottom 7th, Casparius still on the mound to start the inning. Haus is apparently ready in the bullpen.

Bottom 7th, Casparius gets the first two hitters, then issues a two out walk, then ends the inning with a fly out. 5-4 UConn, Casparius with 7 strikeouts. Casparius has given UConn some length and has thrown 102 pitches, I would expect Haus to take the mound at the start of the 8th.
 
I believe Och is their top arm out of the pen. Seeing him in multiple innings today probably limits his availability the rest of the series a bit.
 
Was that Devenney that pinch hit there? He called him Maycock the entire AB and I was confused cuz I thought Maycock was a lefty...

Devenney pinched hit for Maycock. They did not catch it on the game tracker either.

Haus takes the mound to start the bottom of the 8th.

Hit by pitch loads the bases. Haus out, Wurster coming in with one out in the 8th.
 
That’s twice now we have walked / HBP the 8 & 9 hitters in a row. They are the weakness so far this year of the USM offense and we are gifting them bases.

Now Wurster has to face off against an All American candidate with the bases loaded.

Double brings in two runs for USM, they have a 6-5 lead now. One out and two runners on.
 
Ground out and a strikeout ends the inning. UConn coming to bat in the top of the 9th trailing by a run.
 
After Haus walked the bases loaded, Wurster did well. A ground ball hit scored two base runners, and USM leads 6-5 going into the 9th.

We have absolutely no business losing this game. Handing a good team 4 pitch walk after 4 pitch walk is not going to get it done. Gotta fight back.
 
UConn goes down in order on three strikeouts. Huskies go down 6-5. Way too many free 90's given up by UConn pitching as Chris Jones would say, and a lot of them scored for USM.

Chris Jones said during the game that it was a one game suspension for Bushling. Not sure what Coach Penders said about it as the sound on the interview was very rough tonight. Still, Hague is another guy who could see more playing time given his play tonight.

A bad one to listen to, with the wind, a variety of background noises, and the need to get Coach Penders closer to the microphone. But way too many free 90's from the pitchers, and batters slipping into bad hitting habits is the essence of Penders take on things. Just wish I could have heard a bit more concerning the Bushling suspension.
