UConn Secret Scrimmage

PC coaches made a horrendous decision getting this kid into OTE. He showed out at their pro day and now a certain school lost a PG they thought they had. So they put a $400k offer together and communicated it to his father. We refuse to match and there you have it. Welcome to the new CBB.
Kansas jailhawks?

Why on earth did they steer the kid to Overtime Elite?

I have no idea, one of our assistant coaches Tim Fuller was the director of recruiting there and I’m fairly certain they thought his game would develop better there. They forgot that kids from Baltimore becoming Friar players never work out. The list is long.

I really hope Indiana didn’t offer this kid 400k. That’s just crazy.

The word is $350-400 is what it would have cost to keep him and that came from a staff source apparently. He will commit in a very short amount of time and we will see. He was set to sign next week and apparently whoever it is upped the offer to pressure the family to pull the recruitment right now.

I remember Brandon Austin, that kid threw away his talent.

He was from Philly. We have just slightly better success with that city but kids from Baltimore have been a huge bust for us. Always baggage! MD insider saying definitely tampering from Indiana. Says MD pulled out originally because of what we offered him and that this is substantially more.

I remember he was Philly, had a brainfart there. Kid transferred to Oregon and then he sued them for $7.5 million after they kicked him out. No idea what happened to him after that.

Coping, sad to see honestly

Hardly. I wish I cared more frankly. Until they don a jersey they aren’t worth too much to me. My pulse hasn’t risen a bit with this news. I’m only even responding in this thread because the money is ridiculous here, including what we were planning on giving him to begin with. It’s gross.

At least English is a lock to knock the coaching piece out of the park like he has everywhere he’s been

Apparently the Kia dealership NIL funds are all tapped out for next year
Word is we were offering this kid $200k potential his freshman year. (gross) My understanding is that we are well over $1mil a year in NIL. We are not Creighton, UConn, or Nova but we are not SHU either, we have some wealthy business people close to the program. Recently I heard Rob Gronkowski even donated to our NIL. I have no idea of the connection but he works out on campus often apparently.

It will be interesting to see when these players in the NIL era go to the league and start talking more about how much they were getting in NIL money. Right now, it's not super clear what the going rate is.

I have a hard time believing that a 3* player who, frankly, isn't very good... is getting 400k. He's not even a starting caliber player.

I agree with a lot of this but "frankly, isn't very good" is simply not true. The kid is a nice player and Indiana is willing to pay him to help get Derek Queen. I hate it when I see posters make statements on players they have never seen play based upon some star system. It's widely known this kid showed himself to be the best guard at OTE. He is a high major player.

Never said he wasn't a high-major player. I said he's not a starting-caliber player. And that is true.

I watched him play a few times. He's a fine player who will end up being productive given time. People are really overrating the level of competition in OTE. He's got some moves, but he's small, not a very good finisher, and is a meh shooter. Entertaining player though.

He was absolutely not the best guard in OTE, lol. There are OTE guards in the league right now dude.

Is he worth 400k? That I don't really know. But if that's the going rate for a first guard off the bench, then it's a good investment.

okay wait a second, best guard in OTE? You know an OTE guard went in the lottery right?

, are they still at OTE? Reading comprehension is lost among this group. You’ve all worn me out. Do whatever it is you do, but for this topic I’m done.

There are plenty of people that talk out of their arse but 429 watches a lot of basketball. He is not one of them. His scouting reports are comprehensive on high school players. He's not a guy to make a statement just based on rankings or a star system. If you share a different opnion on his abilities, so be it, but he doesn't just throw lazy opinions on prospects out there with no basis or first hand knowledge. Just an FYI.
