UConn Recruiting Speculation 6

I’d guess Sarah will end up in a role sort of like Alyssa Pili — a good perimeter player, but too strong not to want to use her in the low post as well.
I agree. IMO if she hits her stride she'll be mostly an offense initiator from the 3/4 spot (I believe she is best suited for a 4) from the perimeter - playing like a point-forward offensievely. And just like any quality player, she'll also take advantages of scoring inside if/when the situation warrants.

If she were to come to UCONN, leadingup to her sr year she would always have had stellar guard play assuming the injury bug goes away and some players take advanatge of an extra year.

Sarah Strong is a 6-2 W/F, not a “big
Sarah is a power forward/small forward. She is not a SG. .

Well, she can be used as a 3, 4 and/or 5 but I see her most efficient use as a 3/4 shooter offensively and a 4/5 rebounder/paint clogger defensively - all as according to the needs of her team

@HuskyNan I see her as a "big" but not a "post. - and definitely not "Low Post" though she could do it. A large Swiss Army knife.

A nice dilemma for some lucky coach - whomever that might be

We should have a lottery or something. Have the Boneyard
guess the date and time of "THE DECISION" of Ms. Strong.
Saturday morning, April 20th, 2024. After the NCAAs,
after Aaliyah Edwards make " HER" decision and after
the start of the Spring "signing period". Is that "speculation"?
or just "guesswork"?

In response to @visitingcock and @hoophuskee and others, Sarah's passing and shooting skills are quite reminiscent of the great Gabby teams. Everyone on those teams could initiate the transition offense as well as the half court set. Even though they didn't win an NC, I may have enjoyed their games the most, the passing was so quick and sure handed. If Sarah opts to play next to Morgan Ash KK Allie and Jana (plus a year of Paige Azzi and Caroline), it really conjures up all sorts of images of what could be.

A Morgan Tuck type impact comes to mind for me. I have not watched much of her game but her outside shooting touch seems more advanced than Tuck.

She is really big
If you actually watched her play
She has a great post OK and forget the 62. She plays as big as any 65.
What makes her special is her passing ability her ability to play in transition at her size and to be dead lift the three-point line
Trust me if she comes to you, she will play big

The way Morrow did for DePaul and she was shorter.

Sarah's mom is no taller (maybe even a little shorter) and she gave Stanford's bigs a very public spanking in a famous upset years ago. I expect she's learned a lot from her mom.

Mila Bazzell is not yet 2, but I’m predicting big things for her. Plus she’s cute as heck!
My 8 year old granddaughter, also cute as hell, dominates her rec league and is a power guard. She is considering UConn and Michigan (a family thing) but has been known to sneak a watch of South Carolina. She is not allowed to watch ND, Tennessee or Duke (her grandfather’s thing).

When I look at the “Updated Scholarship Grid” from 2/16/24, it looks to me as if we currently have (for 2024-2025) one available scholarship left! So, if that is correct, we can have one of Aliyah, Nika, Strong, Emily, or a Portal player! I hope I’m reading it wrong and some of the other posters who are talking about getting two bigs, or Strong and a big or Aaliyah and Strong are right but I don’t think so. Can anyone out there confirm what our available scholarship situation is?

Technically, you are correct. Only Aubrey and Paige have announced they are coming back for 24-25 season. Until Aaliyah and Nika announce their decisions, we won't know how that final spot shakes out.

A player has the right to transfer whenever wanting but can a coach broke a scolarship to make room for someone he trusts better in the interrest of his team ?

Or can a coach ask another team (Volley, Lacrosse, Field) to provide the scholarship ?

Scholarships are one year at a time so technically a coach does not have to renew a scholarship. But i’d guess they are reluctant to do so absent someone not meeting team academic or behavioral standards. Just forcing someone out to make room for a better player is a bad look. I wouldn’t doubt coaches suggesting a transfer now and then at some schools

Not sure on your second question except I would guess they would actually have to play for the other team. UConn women and men have had a few such “walk ons” by players with scholarships from other sports. Not sure how the NCAA looks at players who might switch scholarships from one sport to another and walking on to the original sport.

As of right now there is only one spot remaining for any other player returning or entering.

I am not worried about what the scholarship grid shows. Geno knows much more than any of us about how next season will unfold. He knows the facts and we don’t. I trust his judgment.

I think any scholarships count against the money sports (mbb, wbb, fb) if another player walks on from another sport.

Agreed but “judgement“ cannot create another scholarship opening!
Yup. Personally if i had to choose between 4 years if Sarah Strong if she is all everyone says and wants UConn, I would want the 4 year player over one more year of either of the other two. Potentially long term gain over short term. If we get no more recruits and i wished for one of the 2 current seniors it would be Aaliyah. She brings more known skills for what UConn would need among returnees than Nika. On paper we will have plenty of ball handling good defensive guards.

Both players have technically graduated. Can't they pay their own way to UConn and still be able to play basketball? It would be like having two walk-ons.
