I sure hope he’s leaving because we have too much talent coming in. That’s gonna leave a mark.

I wonder if he decided to leave once we got some transfers in and his role would be reduced? (kids from Wisco and UCLA)
That’s my thinking but I really didn’t expect them to hurt Cam. I think other capable WR’s would make life easier for Cam.

I think guys hanging around at one school for all 4-5 years will be the exception not the rule. I would expect turnover over any 4-5 year period to be about 100%. New reality.

TRUE .....Shout out to the last survivor of 3 years with RE 2.0 for the end of an era. ( might be around 25 when his CFB days are over ! )
Cam had one of the craziest 5 year Uconn careers ever. 60 catches in 2019. Only 5 between 2020-22 with injuries and Covid, then back to 44 recs in 2023.

That's a major, major loss.
I think the quality of the receivers we are bringing in forced cam to move on. The guys we are bringing in our bigger and better then Cam. I wish he would have stayed and been a solid 3 or 4th option

Jones from UCLA is a slot receiver like Ross. And, you have Smith coming in who also seems to be a slot receiver. On the roster, you have Harrison and Domino as slots. I wish he would have stayed, but I think UConn will be OK with what is on the roster or maybe find another slot in the portal.

I don't think there were any big play receivers last year except Joly who was a big loss. UConn needs a slot receiver who can get yards after the catch which didn't happen last year. In 2022, Turner averaged 7.7 yards after the catch. This year, Ross averaged 5.6 yac.

He's been here 5 years, could easily be a need for a change of scenery
I could agree with this if he entered earlier in the portal time frame. Him entering after we land two WR transfers tells me he doesn't like what he sees in terms of playing time or competition.

I agree with others that he has his degree and has put in his time. I hope he finds success and health wherever he lands.

It’s a message board, and so we speculate. But do you really think he said I see we got 2 guys who were backup wideouts at another school, no way I can compete with that? Where would he go with that mindset? Trinity? Sometimes kids complete their studies, enjoy the holidays and think with a new year - what’s next for me.

I wish he stayed. I wish him nothing but good things going forward.

How kids think about their school has changed dramatically in a short time. Gone are the days when a Coach can sit down with a 20 year old kid and talk about commitment and loyalty and patience. A kid like Cam with degree in hand might actually look at graduate offerings and see a program somewhere else that appeals to him, or maybe he didn't get into the graduate program he wanted at UConn. A different part of the country appeals to him, he met a girl, who knows? To speculate why he left without actually talking to him is an exercise in futility.

So, good luck Cam Ross, we'd have loved to see you finish in Husky Blue and White.

My son went through this in undergrad. He ran D3 at a small college near Boston (Regis), and when he realized he could graduate in 3 years he went for it. Then he was almost done and was like "I don't really want to leave my friends - maybe I'll stay for my senior year". But academically there was nothing for him. They had grad programs, but not the one he needed. So he went to Evansville for grad school and ran there with his remaining eligibility. Sucked for Regis because he was their best runner by a mile, but was the right decision for my son.

Have to remember that even though there is a ton of money, etc, most of these kids won't be pros so the educational / future stuff matters.
