Clingan has been very good defensively. His block on Jared McCain in the last minute was impressive because he played off him in drop coverage and baited him into the shot. As it happened, I thought he was too far off and was screwing up giving a good shooter that much space, but he covered a lot of ground quickly.

He is going to be a work in progress offensively. He’s just not very fluid. That was true at UConn too. He can look pretty awkward at times if he can’t just keep it simple. He also finishes too low when he absorbs contact and becomes easily blockable (happened twice). What he was really good at was finishing plays on the roll downhill when our guards found him … and these summer league guards are awful at it. Every lob try is deflected because they don’t know how to disguise it. I laughed at the first possession of the fourth quarter they designed a play for Clingan to get the ball on the low block and it worked perfectly. He came off a screen wide open. The Portland guard stared at him flashing with no defender on him, missed the window where it could have been a dunk, and then literally tried to throw a bounce pass through his own defender’s legs. Kick ball. Side out. Opportunity lost. And this was clearly a designed play that the guard should have been ready for - not a spontaneous read.

Watching summer league and some full game highlights from the tourney really made me appreciate how good Newton was for us. He was spot on throwing lobs or finding cutters nine times out of ten.

I know the exact play you're talking about. I literally yelled "lob it to Big Don, you idiot!" at my TV. NBA summer league is absolutely brutal to watch. Bunch of mid borderline G-league guards/wings trying to show they're NBA-level slashers/drivers/downhillers (spoiler alert: almost all of them aren't).

We're spoiled with our current UConn teams and coaching staff.

We have hawk vs castle tonight. Hawkins has been a superstar this summer. Will castle change that? Where would we have ranked historically on d if Andre and Steph played together???

The NBA ages you I guess
At this rate he'll be retiring after his first season.

"I don't know if I was nervous. The first-game jitters," Clingan told reporters. "Today I changed my mindset coming into this game. I just had a stronger mindset. I realized I had to dominate my opponent and help my team win. I went in there with a whole lot of confidence."

Blazer fans were still non-committal after the first game's 1-8 shooting, but reading the internet content now and they are head over heals in love.
Being the fan base of Bill Walton, they love a big that can pass.

can't watch the game right now but I see Tristen is getting an opportunity and that boxscore shooting/scoring wise is not pretty

He is only 1 for 9, unfortunately. I have been watching the the game. He hasn't let the bad shooting affect his hustle and his play. His defense has been good and he has forced some turnovers on the he Suns. His rebounding and passing have been on point.

Watching summer league makes me appreciate UConn's offense even more. They don't run much of anything in these games.

Tristen finished with 10 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block, 2 turnovers, and 1 foul in 23 minutes. As noted by others, he shot poorly: 1-9 overall, 0-3 from three, but 8-8 on FT. His all-around game is so solid. I just hope he starts shooting better, or that they think they can improve his shooting.

Bulls went up big but fell apart at the end of the game. Sanogo finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds on 5-9

Clingan starts by missing a monster alley oop dunk, but locks up the paint and gets a layup on the other end

1-5 to start, offense is definitely gonna take some time but they sure are letting him put up threes. They clearly think that's a shot he'll eventually be hitting.

Clingan stays in front of Sarr makes him take a tough runner. He is moving well. Sarr is definitely more than 7’ tall. Then he does not secure the rebound on the foul shot. That was a miss. He has to get his body on him to take away that reach over. But for the few minutes they have played against each other Clingan is certainly showing up.

Yep, this game is hard to watch. Clingan is clamping up Sarr, but that's not saying too much because Sarr has also had a really poor offensive showing this summer league

After 1 quarter -
Clingan: 2 points, 4 rebounds, 1-4
Sarr: 0 points, 4 rebounds, 0-5

Wizards shooting 31% but they're up because the Blazers are shooting 19%

Yep, 1-4. Boxscore had it wrong earlier, I should've trusted my eyes.

Offense in this game is pretty miserable, but something to be said about how the Wizards play when Clingan is off the court. They're getting to the paint at will when he's on the bench. Small things that don't show up in the box score - scaring the other team and forcing them to avoid the paint

But if we do try to put it in the box score, he's a game high +7 in 8 minutes
