UConn is #4 (+1) in the AP Ranking this week.

In other news:
  • We unfortunately won’t be getting our 1 vs. 2 matchup this week, Indiana is #2 and LSU is #3.
  • Stanford drops out of the Top 5 and is replaced by Iowa (as I predicted), who is trending upwards.
  • Duke is now Top 10 after a great week. Congrats, @triaddukefan!

The first NCAA DI Women’s Basketball Committee top-16 reveal will take place this Thursday at halftime of the Stanford-Arizona game on ESPN, the NCAA announced today.
The other reveal will be at halftime of the South Carolina-Tennessee game on Feb. 23

I have no problem with these rankings. But let's keep in mind that UCONN still has the #1 strength of schedule (combined & non- conference) while Indiana's SOS is #27.
LOL....then again, LSU's SOS is #112. Their non- conferense SOS is actually #310!!

I'll take it. The wife and I figured we would be at 4. Depleted line up and only loose by 4.

Not surprised Indiana jumped LSU. Think voters are starting to question LSU's schedule.

Not sure I agree with Iowa at 5. Again, I think voters are being swayed by Clark's scoring numbers. Plus 2 of Stamford's loses are to unranked teams. So - maybe.

Completely surprised that ND only dropped one spot.

Disagree. Our goal should be a 1 seed, which should be doable if we win out. We have the #1 SOS, a NET ranking of #2, are #1 in our conference, have only lost to top 10 AP teams.
I'm not sure if you misread - he is suggesting the #2 (or #3) #1 seed. At this point, baring a collapse, South Carolina will most likely be the #1 #1 seed. Even with one loss, if that happens, I'm not sure who you would move past them, the problem for UConn being specifically that you lost to them.

I would agree that - as of now - he is spot on. Depending on the rest of the season - for example if LSU upset South Carolina, not likely - there are probably some scenarios that would make UConn the third #1, but - once LSU takes expected losses and Indiana presumably does not go undefeated for the season - I would have UConn as the second #1 seed.

I did misread. I apologize, @SLY63!

I commented after yesterday’s loss to SC and Stanford’s loss to Washington that you could make a strong case for UConn as the 2nd best team in the nation. Massey currently ranks UConn 2nd.

Assuming that LSU loses twice, either to SC both times, or to SC and some other SEC opponent, and IN loses a couple times as it faces a gauntlet of ranked teams (Iowa twice, tOSU & Mich), then UConn just needs to take care of business in the NBE and the Huskies will be the #2 overall seed imo.

We need SC to blow out LSU. Finally, they will have to step up and show the nation if they are contenders or pretenders. Without Reese, they are an average team IMHO.
Every season, we hear some committee mouthpiece explain that a team received a low seeding or missed the tournament because of their weak out of conference schedule. But LSU's 310th non conference SOS is totally ignored as they move up the polls. Even after playing their SEC schedule, their combined SOS is still an anemic #112.

Definitely looking forward to that LSU/South Carolina game, I think Sunday, as well as the Iowa/Indiana game Thursday. Should be some intense basketball games over the next 6-7 days.

The problem is that the Duke, Iowa, and Texas wins came with Azzi on the court, and the concern is that the selection committee might take that into account.

LSU would be in serious trouble without Reese and I am sure Kim knows that. I think that is one reason she has not done much to change her behavior on the court. She knows that if she sits her it is a likely loss.

All I know is the ACC will be determined by what Virginia Tech does with the rest of their schedule. They have 5 of their 6 remaining games against the ranked contenders. NC State-twice, Florida St, NC and Duke. They could wreak havoc with the first 4 seeding. and ultimately the polls and NET.

From the voting points perspective, the voters have started to differentiate and create tiering. When LSU loses badly on Sunday, they could drop to #7 or 8.
Also keep in mind Indiana-Iowa have 2 games scheduled against each other-this Thursday and Feb 26.

Glad we moved up one. Surprised they dropped Stanford that far. I would not have them behind Iowa but I guess that's the price for losing to an unranked team.
