O.K., I’m going to assume this is accurate (because who knows at this point but why not). So if the Evers story posted above is true what an absurd thing, but assume we have McDonald and Farrah available and Smith and Neider both HS QBs if necessary. Goodness only knows. So both OTs are in fact gone, with Toriyan Johnson starting at LT. Chan slides from RG to RT and Wayburn would start at RG. Both Hansen and Honig playing at TE, so even if Juice isn’t playing, we’re fine. So other than at QB (OTHER THAN THAT Mrs. Lincoln how was the play) we should be fine — no worse than what injuries might do week to week — at QB.
So defense is another, and surprising story. The two big DL starters — Carroll-Jackson and Wright — are gone. Choute gets the start at NT, and Trent Jones, who is probably bettter than Wright anyway, starts at DE. The issue is depth. We’re playing a running team that likes long drives, so even if the absences only affect depth up front that could be a big deal. We are apparently going to go with a 3-4-4, as opposed to the 4-3-4 we played against Air Force, so Ty King gets to slide in as a second starting MLB. And with one less DB, Mal McClean is gone. But gone gone, not just not starting. Depth behind the front also loses Mills and Latu at Safety.
So bottom line — much thinner than you’d like to be, but if we get competent QB play and don’t suffer more in game injuries, we have enough to play a competitive game here. Again, having no idea what field conditions might be like after last night’s snow or who reacts better to sub freezing temperatures..
