UConn is going Bowling > Wasabi Fenway Bowl v. Army (Saturday 12/27/25 @2:15 on ESPN)

With Sammis and Brock leaving, does anyone know if they will still be coaching in the bowl game?

Sammis - yes. I don’t believe I’ve seen hard confirmation on Brock yet.

Sammis will conclude his responsibilities and coach UConn through their bowl game against Army, set for December 27, before joining the Horned Frogs staff

Rather than lament who is opting out and entering the portal, I have a thought question for the boneyard. Given the key pieces we may not have, for those who have watched most if not all of the games this season, how do you think Sammis will adapt/change the offense so that we can move the ball (slow mesh, RPOs, etc), and what other changes to defensive schemes would be possible given Army's style of play? I read earlier this week on Reddit a post by some Army fan warning UConn fans to prepare for 9 min marches of doom...that both made me almost spit my tea whilst instilling a fear of a brutal beating. Where's our sim fans, what do you think we may do to at least keep the game competitive?

Army is going to play keep away. They go for it on almost every 4th down. I remember Evers being an effective runner prior to injury.

Rooting for a ten-win season., happened once in program history. Rooting for the players who want to make that happen.
1998, Skip Holtz's last year, finished 9-2 in regular season, then won & lost a game each in the playoffs to finish 10-3. UConn was in the NE Division of the Atlantic 10 Conference (1-AA aka FCS) at the time.
(I had to look it up cuz I certainly didn't remember that lol)
So this could be our first 10 win FBS season.

Sammis will do what he's done all year. Get the ball to the best player on the field

Who that is, idk

Assuming guys like Neider, Honig, Vereen amd Porter play, they will be the targets. Hopefully, Evers can find them. I’m not sure how much harder getting open will be without Skyler getting attention.

Edwards will obviously get most of the carries. Maybe, Mel Brown will play too?

Defending the triple option is my worry.

Chadwick? You mean Edwards?

Would you Guys have preferred we've gotten Navy over Cincinnati at the Liberty Bowl down in Memphis? 🤔 Many of these Bowls are Conference specific, unfortunately including that one.

I’d rather see UConn play in front of 20k plus fans instead of 200. Unless it’s the playoffs could care less about the opponent.

Wondered about that, and would it make a difference if we gave them a "bonus". If you start with Fagnano and Bell, how much do they make and how much would make a difference in their "feelings" about the game. So foreign to my experience of Intercollegiate Athletics, and I guess that is where we are today.🤷‍♂️
if u receive $$, large portion withheld until all games inc bowl games are required, injuries must be confirmed as significant by Team Doc and reconcinfirmed by independent sports Med Doctor! Shud be in all contracts in NCAA!! Big pay day need to big boy! I am former player andvbI think fair is fair" 2 way street" forget bonus make it a "penalty with a loss of a down $$$ ! Simple!

Will we actually know who will be playing for UConn in this game, or will it just be a surprise on the 27th?

I would guess we won’t find out much until the media days the week of the bowl. But it would be nice to at least know who the quarterback will be.

I agree. As a ticket holder, I will be really disappointed if there is no official word on who is playing. I think the fans at least deserve that.

Quote from Hoosiers:

"I would hope you would support who we are. Not, who we are not. These six individuals have made a choice to work, a choice to sacrifice, to put themselves on the line 23 nights for the next 4 months, to represent you, this high school. That kind of commitment and effort deserves and demands your respect. This is your team".

Whom ever takes field for us at the bowl deserves our support because they are our team.

Yeah, Hoosiers is a great movie.
I guess I just don’t like mystery. I spend all season following players; their stories, their successes and failures. I’d like to go to the game having some idea who’s playing and who isn’t so I can follow their stories better. It helps me enjoy the game. Also, I’d like to have some idea of what to expect. Right now, I have no idea who’s playing and who isn’t and whether we have a chance to win or if we’ll look like Boise State last night.

It’s ironic you’re using this quote since it mentions 4 months. Most fans were hoping that players would play for the full four months/season.

This sucks.

Totally different team in the bowl game. Hard to get on players about playing when you can't even get coaches to stay. Probably should have turned the bowl down (only half joking).
We're still building our brand in terms of being a reliable bowl team with a fan base that travels well. I'm not sure that the team that canceled the 2020 season can afford to turn down a bowl game.

No one is going to think the program is less healthy or strong because of Wasabi Bowl. It may showcase some future stars, next years quarterback, any number of positives. The outcome is irrelevant, it's not what we do, its what we do with it. Candle comes out swinging after Christmas.
