UConn is going Bowling > Wasabi Fenway Bowl v. Army (Saturday 12/27/25 @2:15 on ESPN)

Not sure why Mike Burton would share that.....other than loving the spot light.

Assuming the comment is accurate about Joe F., the kid had a terrific season and I think he has a shot at the League. Stepping away from the bowl game would not be a good look imo. He's terrific.........but he isn't that terrific.

Because if they want more money/incentives to play in the bowl, guess who has to dish it out? Burton.

I get the hesitation from some of you on the board. I ask this as it may help how you view the game, if this exact matchup and location was on the schedule before the regular season started would you be interested in going? I would think the vast majority of us would say yes! Just view it as what it is a 13th game, an extension of the regular season, and an opportunity to get a 10th win against a team we have some shared history with. I understand it can be disappointing as a "bowl game" and what we think that should look like, so just forget that it is a bowl game and have fun.

Much of this is probably nonsense. I doubt the administration pushed for Fenway. Fenway probably approached UConn with the best offer. And as I said in another post Fenway loves UConn. Plus it is a good date. Some people just like to stir up controversy.

Even if it were true, the players were probably just looking at the same dartboard internet projections that we were, and thinking we had a shot at those other bowls

The amount of people here who are complaining about being in the Fenway Bowl is crazy to me.

Let's show up on large numbers, get our program's first 10-win season, and prove once again that WE deliver the New England market, not those clowns north of us in the conference that we just won through transitive property...

uhh..... I would say Army/Navy is their super bowl... not a meaningless bowl against UConn.

I agree that they'll come out full force, since service academy kids aren't portal drama queens, but let's not pretend this bowl comes even close to the navy rivalry, in terms of importance for army's 2025 season.
Not that Army likely modifies their scheme much, but can only help that they have a game this week to prepare for and we haven't had one in 2 weeks. Improved health and more time to scout than your opponent can never be a bad thing (ignoring the idea of rust).

Got tickets last year through the Red Sox ... this is part of a follow up email received yesterday

"This year’s bowl includes a postgame concert from country artist Riley Green, automatically included with every ticket—making it a full afternoon and evening of entertainment without needing separate plans."
That's a deal-breaker for me. I'm not paying for that. Come on now.

But according to all the information available regarding the economics of the bowl game, the Fenway Bowl is better for the program fairly significantly than the other bowl options. Wouldn't that offset the unconfirmed money needed to convince players to play in a game?

I don't believe UConn was in play for Charlotte as it is an ACC vs SEC game and the payout is ~$4.8 million per team so the ACC and SEC weren't giving up that money. UConn would have jumped on that in a second for the money! The Boca Bowl has a payout of $900k and you will probably lose money. The Gasparilla Bowl is $600k and you will lose money. The Fenway Bowl was the highest paying bowl that UConn could get by a factor of at least 2.
Really, what does it pay? I can't find that number anywhere.

I don't see that any of our outbound Portal list has committed anywhere.
the window hasn’t opened yet, so none are actually in the portal to commit, yet. It’ll open 5 days after the official announcement (so opens Thursday, I believe) and stay open for 15 days. This is in addition to the regular end of season window that opens January 2nd.

Tickets are (from what I’ve seen) about the same as last year. I think they’re just trying to boost attendance and keep people longer to help concession sales.
Looks like they went up from $45 to $65. I can only assume the extra $20 is for the additional performance they arranged, which you literally could not pay me to attend, nevermind get me to subsidize financially.

Has UConn opened up ticket sales yet? I must’ve fallen off on the donor list and didn’t get the message. I thought tickets went on sale at 10am. I’d figure they’d be opened up to lower levels by now.

EDIT: never mind just got the email. Thanks

Hey they finally realized that a game only is not a good product. I'll give them props where it's due. I'll say if Fenway wants to try to make UConn a regular, they need to do more of this stuff to keep it fresh.

For the tickets I got I paid $6 more than last year which I deemed reasonable. Was unaware of the country performance thing.

We have to pay these guys to go to the bowl? That’s a negotiation too?

Although I will say that it's awfully strange to get the Detroit Tigers's LF to do a country performance... Didn't know he had that skill set. 😆

Wondered about that, and would it make a difference if we gave them a "bonus". If you start with Fagnano and Bell, how much do they make and how much would make a difference in their "feelings" about the game. So foreign to my experience of Intercollegiate Athletics, and I guess that is where we are today.🤷‍♂️

Same as last year. The selection for the UConn designated tickets suck.

Almost all Grandstand. And back rows. If you just go to the Fenway Bowl site and click “UConn Fan” it’s a far better selection at the same price.

(I suspect the UConn fan button is just for tracking purposes. Doesn’t confer anything special).

I’d like to purchase through UConn but you are disincentivized from doing so.

I don't see that any of our outbound Portal list has committed anywhere. Don't really know the psychology of Portal marketing. Do they look at a bowl as another chance to increase their value, or vice versa. Somehow I think Joe Fagnano plays, wonder about Bell, but he seems high character and understands what his time at UConn has done for his stock. Lets pray both of them are there.

Incoming Coach Candle has his hands all over this, of course. Wondering what his impact will be on our personnel and performance.

If our potential opt outs go mostly the opt out path, we are going to struggle with Army. Sammis is going to have his hands full getting our kids ready for this. Very confusing. Love to see us in Boston solidifying our claim to be the Northeast's Team(Pinstripe would be better, I know)
Portal doesn’t technically open until January
