UConn in the NFL

NFL almost here. I read the other day that last week was the last week until next year with no NFL games. Of course this includes preseason games.

-> -Chimere Dike, David Martin-Robinson, Julius Chestnut, TJ Sheffield and Burks had two catches each. <-

-> -QB Tim Boyle was 3-of-4 in the 7-on-7 period, and 5-of-5 in the team periods. <-
TJ Sheffield, Tim Boyle connection? A CT football fan’s dream (though if I had to choose, Sheffield working his way into first team with Ward would be the preferred outcome of preseason).

Haynes looks like he is a bust. Sad because I had such high hopes for him. He didnt even get a single rep in today’s practice.

Playing OL is about scheme and fit. He'll find a spot somewhere if it doesn't work out in Seattle.

The Hawks switched to a zone scheme this year and that is what Haynes excelled at for the Huskies where I think PFF had him as 3rd best in that scheme in the country.

Despite this, he is currently the third string RG and third string C and the interior linemen ahead of him suck! I am a Hawks fan and watched every game last year and Haynes is both too weak and too slow to succeed in the NFL.

His success at UConn is looking extremely likely because he was dominating players on bad competition and because he was a fifth year senior going against younger less experienced players.

I thought he played against a fair number of P4 teams in 22 and 23 and had a very good senior bowl week that got him drafted that high? Too bad he is not seeing any success.

You may be right about too weak and slow, something that makes NFL selectors seem pretty lame as "weak and slow" seems to be something can pick up during combine. His status as a draft choice was not only because he played against little kids (exaggeration intended).

Some senior bowl comments:

"Haynes earned himself an invite to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. this weekend, and once he got there, he showed everyone why he’s got a chance to flourish at the next level.

He went viral for a clip during Senior Bowl practice, broadcast on NFL Network, in which he owned LSU defensive tackle Jordan Jefferson, blocking him for an extended period before Jefferson became frustrated and started to go at Haynes, ripping off his helmet."

"Haynes’ performance has sent him up mock drafts too, with Pro Football Focus moving him to No. 77 on its list of top 200 prospects. SI.com has Haynes going 88th overall in its mock draft."

Sounds like you are pretty confident about Hayes, hope you are wrong and NFL evaluators turn out to be correct.

Yes NFL evaluators and coaching staffs are currently evaluating him as being no better than third string for a team with a bad interior OL. Seems like they have the same opinion I do.

Plus Haynes was seen to be a possible second round pick immediately after his showing in the senior bowl and combine and leading up to the draft. Yet he dropped, so maybe the NFL teams themselves didnt agree with those comments you quoted.

-> Broderick Washington Jr. has stepped into a starting position at defensive end. After Michael Pierce's retirement, Travis Jones is now the starting nose tackle, and Washington fills Jones' spot at defensive end. John Jenkins is the backup nose tackle and Brent Urban is the backup defensive end. <-

Ravens Rising Star Compared to Pro Bowler

-> The Baltimore Ravens already have a proven star along the interior of their defensive line in two-time Pro Bowler Nnamdi Madubuike, who has recorded 19.5 sacks over the past two seasons. In the eyes of veteran Pro Bowl outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy, they have another one in the making with fourth-year pro Travis Jones. <-

He was the 5th or 6th interior OL chosen. He had the measurables. Articles I've seen is that the organization is disappointed in his lack of professionalism. Shame to see that. The opportunity was there.

Opportunity.

That's all any player wants. Then it's all on them to take advantage of it.

Yeah it’s bad to hear about him struggling, but worse to hear he isn’t giving it his all.

I totally get the whole “not my kid”...errr player thing, but he seemed to be a real genuine humble guy, so hearing this really surprises me.

SMH Tim Boyle looks horrible. Three picks vs Tampa's 4th qtr backups tonight. Anytime I've seen him play he's barely serviceable - I don't know how he stays in the league.

-> The first Rams rookie safety competing for playing time is Malik Dixon-Williams. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 200 pounds, MDW can motor a 40-yard dash in approximately 4.6 seconds. Of the two competitors, he is more akin to the super safety role that former DC Raheem Morris seemed to value so highly. He is a ball-hawking defensive back, which, if demonstrated in preseason, could get his stock rising rapidly. <-
