The business school was always going to be one of the larger colleges in Hartford in terms of headcount. Just look at UConn Stamford. So, was this bad planning in terms of not having enough space in the Hartford location for the business school or was it always the plan to keep it at Constitution Plaza?

I would hope that eventually they will build out the Hartford campus and move the graduate school programs to the new campus, while also adding a CT FastTrack bus station at UC-Hartford

What if it's just a good problem, such as higher enrollment than reasonably projected, e.g., a scenario the article suggests?

New UConn Campus Combines The Past And Future Of Hartford

"The front entrance to the University of Connecticut's new downtown campus now under construction is tied to the past with the façade restoration of the iconic Hartford Times building standing as a reminder of the city's heyday.

But step inside and it's all about the future.

An atrium soaring three stories dominates the new structure rising just east of city hall in a corner of the emerging Front Street district. The atrium, now roughed out in steel and concrete, will be lined on three sides by more than two dozen classrooms when the campus welcomes nearly 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students next fall."

Pretty great stuff from the Courant here today. Can't wait to see what the campus looks like when all is said and done

The Hartford Times is long in the history book, but it appears the newspaper's name will live on post-UConn renovation of the beaux arts, 1920-designed building. No huge surprise given New England's general respect for history and historic buildings, but who among you knows the source of the building's granite columns? Which other well-known Hartford buildings were designed by the same architect? Answers here

UConn’s Front Street arrival sets off a retail feeding frenzy

Nixs, the restaurant-bar in downtown Hartford's Front Street retail-entertainment district, plans an exterior facelift around the time UConn's adjacent new campus opens there in late August.

The eatery will create an outdoor cafe and internet lounge outside its 40 Front St. location, where an anticipated 2,000 or so UConn faculty, staff, pupils and other downtown patrons can relax with a sandwich, salad or espresso latte, or use free Wi-Fi and charging stations to phone-chat or surf online, says proprietor Abner Kurtin.

To further entice UConn's faithful, Nixs will open with a 15-percent discount for all Husky students and is joining other Connecticut restaurants and entertainment venues in pursuing approval to accept "Husky Bucks'' — the school's cashless debit card for meals and other retail purchases.

"We are excited about UConn opening and serving their community," Kurtin said. "We hope this will bring Front Street the long-awaited foot traffic that will help boost local retailers."

Nixs is among a raft of downtown Hartford retailers, restaurants, apartment landlords and operators of public and cultural venues in the center city eagerly anticipating UConn's opening.

The impending influx of thousands of new potential customers daily — a single shot in downtown Hartford's arm not seen in generations — is coaxing many nearby venues to retool or makeover their businesses, particularly as they seek to cater to a younger college crowd.
