UConn @ Georgia State Panthers - Saturday 9/9/23 @Center Parc Stadium @7p on ESPN+

Great point. So when a strong running team jumps out to an early lead this running clock is in their favor?

In theory, yes.

The NCAA wants to reduce the number of plays a game. College games, on averge, have 15-20 more plays a game, than NFL games. A running team like Navy is going to significantly have fewer plays than teams that are going spread all game and throwing 45 times a game.

The length of the game isn't shortening; it's the number of plays. That was the gist being Chip Kelly's comment over the weekend about the NCAA lining it's pockets with more ads during games.

The running clock after first downs when the ball remains in play is reducing the number of plays in a game.

Running clock favors teams which pass more often and can get out of bounds more often.

Coaches need to evaluate how play calling and how a play ends affects game clock.

The new clock rule is big our friend.

Our offense isn’t really built to cope with it.

Seems that the new clock rules should help teams with better defense. Teams with better offenses have less game time to control the game. No?

.-.
Their QB looks dangerous, but our defense is exponentially better than URIs.

Their RB is their best offensive player. They're a pretty old team. They're undersized at DL (and not so quick) and DB's, so JF should be able to have good vision, move around, and find mismatches down the field. Rosa should be able to bully ball for extra yards and he and Dan Hurley/BB should exploit their speed and quickness. Huskies win by 14.

In the first half G State rushed 6 and 7 on some pass downs. Have to ready for that. Rhody was able to pass down the field. Did not have to go heavy on screens or dump offs as their QB had good vision and completed some nice downfield throws under pressure. He did throw a pick 6 when it looked like he misjudged where the receiver was turning on his route.

This is the type of game that UConn needs to win if they want to get back to respectability. GA State can't simply out athlete The Huskies and win on individual big plays. If UConn can lean heavy on their solid run game and stop the run when on defense, they'll have a good shot to win.

In fairness major D1s lose to fcs teams all the time so the fact that Gstate almost lost to one should shock no one. Also, I’m in the process of writing up a preview of Gstate and URIs QB is legit, went to MD and he was tabbed as the the guy there till he blew out his ACL to start the season 2 years in a row. He transferred to URI and in 2 years he possess or will posses every major passing record at the school. He’s no slouch and after watching that game I am very confident in saying he’s better than JF.
That is quite something to think about. RI the 171st rated football team (including FCS and FBS, UConn is 145th per Massey) has a QB that is better than anyone at UConn. Kid threw for over 400 yards and RI had 520 yards of offense. There is something to this "highly rated out of high school" and subsequent potential upside, even if it takes a few years.

Once again extra pressure is placed on D because our OC can’t figure out how to use one of the better OLs around and a great stable of backs.

Somewhat interesting of a national perspective.

Georgia State wins and drops two spots to #104.
UConn loses and jumps 17 spots to #84.

I'm no Forrest Gump when it comes to math but to me that means going in to week one (or week zero) UConn was #101 and Ga St was #102 meaning that after one week he was much more impressed by UConn losing to NC State then he was by Ga St beating Rhody.

Athletic also came out with a ranking today:

10 Tenesse
13 Duke
38 NC State
63 James Madison
85 Georgia Southern
86 UConn
100 BC
102 Rice
105 UMass
109 Utah State
127 Ball State
128 FIU
NR Sacred Heart

Is Duke really a top 15 team? That was a super flukey game last night against Clemson...

Malik was walking around with a taped up knee. hit the bike and was ready to go out, then the trainers held him back. hope that the feeling good enough to go out thing was a good sign, but i was the same way back in high school and it turned out i had torn my PCL. high hopes though!!!!

I try to not over react to stars. Using that logic New Mexico State has a better qb and Utep has a better rb than bama or UGa.

Let Duke have high ranking. All the better when we beat them.

-> “I’m always very critical of myself,” Mora said Tuesday. “If they didn’t tackle well, that means I didn’t do a good job during the week of emphasizing it. If I don’t put them in a good call and it puts them in a bad position, that’s something else I look at. But ultimately when you get out on the field – great defenses tackle. Great defenses tackle, they swarm and they tackle, and we missed way too many tackles so that was probably the genesis of it all.”

“First week, usually tackling is not the best thing, but we can’t use that as an excuse, we gotta use that as just a watch film, learning situation,” linebacker Noah Plack said. “(It is) just pursuit to the ball, really, and playing together more. I feel like sometimes we kind of do our own thing a little bit, just sticking to the plan and just doing what we’ve got to do.” <-
