Well we didn’t land Agot as she decided to head to South Carolina. Why? Maybe she was told something that we do not know. We had one opening left with Paige leaving. That is if Caroline and Azzi stay. CD has announced that she was returning. This may be one of the reasons that Agot chose SoCar.

Do you like conspiracy theories? Me personally I am not. But, I will toss one your way. Watching Senior Day after the game to me it seemed that Paige was overly excited. Maybe it was because she has been through this event once before. Or is it possible that she is undecided on whether to return to UConn for her medical year.

Geno has a rule that he wants to know what a players intentions lie by end of the conference tournament. That is what Azzi is waiting for. Imagine how many heads would turn if PB decides to stay at UConn one more year.

I'm with @MooseJaw and @oldhusky -- the priority in my mind is Vukosa and Harpring. The Big O for obvious reasons, and Kate because she shut down Kaleena Smith in one game. I may be imagining things, but I think I see a little bit of Nika in her, and we can always use a bit of that.

Based on what i have “heard” from AAU coaches Harpring will not be headed to Storrs.

Well the team needs a point guard. So either by recruit or by the portal. The team needs a PG.

.-.
It would be nice if we could snag someone from the portal.
PG is the hardest position to fill through the portal. Kaitlyn was an exceptional case from a school with a similar (not identical) style and culture. It would also appear cruel to KK and might send a bad message to possible recruits.

But even worse, I can’t think of any candidates, and I’ve been weighing possibilities. Do you have any in mind? I assume Geno, if he were open to it, would prefer a senior or grad student, and someone not from the Big East. That just leaves Hana Muhl :p:D

I said that we need a PG. it doesn’t need to be a Chen type player. We needed one a couple of years ago and Anes arrived. Fisher is not a true point and neither is Morgan. I like the idea of Hana Muhl. She is not needed to be a star or even a starter. From a post above someone said that Harpring is not interested in UConn. That’s to bad if true. She would be a Sue Bird type player. But she would be a year away. Not many point guards available in the 2026 class.

Disagree about Morgan. She is absolutely a PG. whether that’s her best role at UConn is a different question. Saying she’s not able to play PG is like saying Evina was not a PG in her two years at UConn. In Geno’s positionless offense, Evina was often effectively the PG even when Paige or Nika were on the floor. I have no idea if Geno wants to use Morgan that way. But this season is probably not a good indicator, given the depth at the guard spots. The question is next season, when at least two of those spots will turn over. If the options are KK and Kelis, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Morgan get some minutes at PG.

Not many C's near the top of the recruiting rankings either. My main worry is if you want a C or PG there is a big drop-off after the Big O and Harpring. It is hard to have a great recruiting year if you miss on both of those. Plenty of talented players, but maybe not what we need most.

I'm in the camp that the team needs another PG to play the Chen role next year. Not a digg on KK, she's probably the starter. Geno likes players with different styles. to give teams different looks. Don't know if they will be able to get one. We'll see.

I think for better or worse our first two options at PG next year are KK backed by Fisher whether she is a natural point guard or not. I don't think we should consider another emergency PG pickup ala Ines in case of injury, largely because of Morgan being a third option, and Bone Dog's analogy with Evina is a good one.

Evina was a 1-3 player who was stretched to even play the 4 sometimes, and that is something Morgan can do as well.

I can’t confirm if she was following her prior to the portal announcement, but Coach Valley is following Wisconsin transfer Serah Williams (and liked her transfer post). There might be interest in the Brooklyn native.

Just following her? Coach Valley should be parked outside her dormitory by now.;)

Recent highlights

Serah Williams played from 2019-2022 in the OSBA league in Canada for Niagara prep. The same league in which Aaliyah Edwards played. In my opinion, the OSBA is the league that offers the best level of competition in Canada, even though Niagara Prep and Fort Erie have decided to play as independents this season.

Niaga Prep coach Dave Picton spotted her in the summer of 2019 with Canada Elite, and convinced her to join his team at Niagara Prep for the next three seasons. Her teammate was Emma Koabel, also in her third NCAA season with Duke. She was invited to the Basketball Canada camp in 2022 to form the team that would participate in that year's U18 Americas Championship. I don't believe she's a Canadian citizen, and I think it's quite possible that she didn't apply, since there was no follow-up, even for the following year's U19 World Championship. On the official Niagara prep website, the profile of the team members was posted and I remember that she was considered a very good student, with excellent academic results.

Serah has developed very well, excelling at standing out with the right passing angles to be well fed inside. Attached are recent highlights, her wikipedia page and the invitation from Basketball Canada. Unfortunately, the Niagara prep website is no longer online at this time.

I suppose it is kosher to discuss potential incoming transfers of players who announced they are transferring and are officially in the portal. Correct? In a separate forum, I learned that former Husky national champion Missy Rose's niece Rachael Rose, is in the portal. Seems to have some similar characteristics with Kaitlyn.

Works for me! We need another point guard. She doesn’t need to be a starter. But, being a senior helps a bunch towards recruiting. Plus, she is family just like Nika’s sister.

With Azzi announcing her return there is only one spot currently open. Will it be a high school graduate. A portal player. Or just an empty seat. Time will tell.

I think if it is a difference maker that could likely play ahead of a current projected rotation player you certainly go for it. Williams is probably in that category and also at a position of need. Beyond that, if another spot became available after seasons end, you also have to consider the opportunity cost, if they have more than one year remaining.

Right, but exceptions would be made for a big-time player. That's why UConn went after Beers with two years remaining. Always take the more sure thing over potential, especially when you're aiming to win a title.

Right now we have one spot. A legit post player should fill that need and is hopefully a grad student or to be senior. With Azzi returning that gives us another ball handler. But, I would still like to see another point guard on the squad. With the portal you never know who is going to jump in or when. Geno tried to get a post last year what was it three times and failed. Hopefully we hook one up this year. Remember that the 2026 Class is loaded with talent. We should have two for sure scholarships available and possibly three.
