OT: UConn football and hockey

Sorry, BC sucks in all sports, I guess it’s a step up from lately but not a big accomplishment. BC is BC, have not been good since the Fluite era. If your a student you may have to goggle that. (1980s) Sorry, I just hate College Football and what it has become.

That's empirically false. If you are fan whose prism of sports is stuck in the 80's, you're probably not a good fan.

Football, beating BC is no big accomplishment, and very few people care about hockey. Let’s stay focused on Basketball, UConn’s real sport. When one of the other two mentioned sports wins a Chip then will take time on the Basketball board to discuss.
You couldn't be anymore wrong. BC people care about hockey more than football and basketball, so beating them is a very big accomplishment for us ad a disapointment for them. Kavanaugh staying at UConn instead of taking over for Jerry York was also a big accomplishment especially for recruiting. As Fishy said football drives the NCAA sports bus so beating them in football is a big accomplishment for us. Now on to basketball, here's to hoping that Donovan Clingan as accomplished a freshman season as Victor Rosa!

Anyone have the picture of the BC press conference when introduced into the ACC calling them BCU?

Hockey East is the most fun and easy to follow league in college sports. One of the best in the sport, every team is within driving distance, no one likes each other, and everyone agrees they should kick out Merrimack.

But really, it's a great time and UConn's been a solid addition. Good to see Cav now has them as legit contenders.

.-.
Ice Hockey is more important than you think. UConn is in amongst the BEST of Ice Hockey Conferences, where Football is independent, and the Big East is 5th, 6th at best. Hockey Easy sends a team to the Frozen 4 almost annually. It is also unlikely to be poached, as Ice Hockey Conferences are regional in nature.

In the grand scheme of things, hockey is meaningless.

But still fun.

This is terrific advice for the athletic department if their long term plans are to keep making $3M a year in television rights fees.

Fortunately, they’re brighter than you.

Feels good to be a proud, UConn fan again. I don’t follow football much but when your considered the worst team in D1 you get some s@&t from people. Mora has done a great job so far bringing them out of the basement and has them acting like a team. Undoubtedly he’ll get better recruits and hopefully he can get us back into bowl discussions in a few years. The hockey team is bad ass. These guys are contenders. Baseball is really solid and our basketball programs are the envy of the majority of most D1 schools. Feels great. Now let’s add some hardware.

He’s got us in a bowl discussion NOW…..granted, if we do go, it will be to a bowl no one has ever heard of and it will probably be at 9 am on a Tuesday in mid-December, but still.

That’s the insane part of all this. These guys are down to their third and fourth string players at skill positions and they are just finding a way.

If they keep winning, the most important result will be high quality, experienced transfers. He can improve the roster quickly with the portal, no more 2-3 year lag waiting for freshman to develop.

A first place vote?

Noice Thats Nice GIF

How many schools can say they have a ranked Mens & Womens basketball program, ranked hockey team, and ranked baseball team?

At this rate, Mora will have us in the top 25 within the next couple of seasons. Going 4/4 in the major sports would be incredible
I was just thinking of this the other day. We are extremely fortunate to have this success as alumni, students and supporters. I am an all sport's fan and love it. Traveling to CT for UMass and one hockey game against Maine this week.

UConn in Hockey East is equivalent to the old big East days. Would be great if this could be like 1990 really breaking the door down and putting UConn hockey on the national map.

Also have the on campus arena soon. Matthew Wood could be the house hold name for the program.

Here’s a mock draft https://www.tankathon.com/nhl/mock_dra

Football is the ultimate college game day experience. No other sport comes close. Period. BTW, it is also the number one driver of finance for college sports. Period. Ignore it at your own risk.

Nice that someone gets it!

So.. Sounds like you dudes are sayin' it was a big win last weekend
It was a huge win for many reasons. Not the least of which is it showed we can compete with P5 teams even if they are the dregs of P5. In particular beating BC an ACC team gives us cred with the ACC which is where we need to be trying to go. We would be a very good fit academically athletically and in every other way.

Then don't open and participate in the thread
My point was this this thread should be on the Football or Hockey board, not the Basketball board.

People on the football and hockey boards are already aware of this though and posting in the game threads weekly. I guarantee there are dozens of posters who only check the basketball board who had no idea about the football team and especially the hockey team's success though
