I just argue with you with that user name....too much respectBut adults, season ticketholders and donors do.
Any chance UConn owns the land under EO Smith and can simply take back the lease, level it (it needs to be replaced anyway) and build a 12K Basketball/8 K Hockey combo arena there? Freitas becomes the practice arena and can be used by the community, UConn stps playing games at teh XL except during school breaks, and we call get to watch the Mansfield residents go insane?
False....if they had more money they would build it bigger. If they thought they could sell more seats they would build it bigger. Problem is people complain about going to Storrs.

Correct. And both new facilities have fewer seats than originally proposed. It's all about a dearth of $$$.The soccer and baseball programs are finally close to opening their new facilities after many years in the pipeline. These facilities would have opened years earlier if UConn had the financial support to do so. The same financial constraints have an impact on the size and quality of the hockey facility as well.

The new 97,700 square foot arena can be a palace given it’s size. Quinnipiac’s dual basketball/hockey facility including the shared common area is 185,000 square feet. Amenities, architectural style and seating will determine if it’s a palace.2700 seats plus 800 SRO gives UConn a shot at building an intimidating environment on campus.
I know we are enthusiastic to built a palace, but a palace we can’t fill is a millstone around our neck.
That's the gamble, but it's an expensive one with uncertain payoff. In the meantime, SHU has all new construction projects on hold, so there will be at least a one year delay before starting. I don't know the status of their fund-raising in such a tough period for colleges, but one has to wonder whether there could be further delays, revisions or even cancellation.Prediction: within three years, SHU will be in ECAC or Hockey East. My choice, as a UConn alum and hockey season ticketholder...…...Hockey East.

As of now, construction is projected to begin in April 2021, finished in December 2022.
Is that really an increase? The 2,700 includes a "standing room only deck area for students." I thought the old 2,500-2,700 figures excluded standing room. Will there be any other standing room seating?Positive steps...
This is no better than URI or Delaware. Following this thread, for $68MM?
