Top 4th, the UConn offense goes down in order. 9-0 Creighton.
Down 9 runs and we go down on 7 pitches. Team is done for today, they just want to get it over with. We are certainly doing our part at the plate to make it a fast game, unfortunately our pitching is awful (walks,HBP,wild pitches) galore.

Standard

I am still used to the time when baseball games took well under 3 hours. That was the way it was when I was young when I followed baseball starting in the mid to late 1960's and for many years after that. But that has certainly been changing. Of course, in recent years it seems the time for all sports to play their games has been getting longer and longer.

Top 5th, Biller leads off with a walk, he steals 2B. A no out single by Rispoli puts runners on the corners. It ends up being a scoreless inning for the UConn offense. 9-0 Creighton.

Bottom 5th, after a 2 out single Ellisen has a scoreless inning. 9-0 Creighton.

Top 6th, MacArthur gets a leadoff walk, he advances to 2B on a 1 out wild pitch. Ends up being a scoreless inning for the UConn offense which had 2 strikeouts this inning. 9-0 Creighton.

Bottom 6th, Ellisen with no out ends up having the bases loaded. A 1 out error by Minick brings in a run and leaves the bases loaded, 10-0 Creighton. Ellisen comes out of the game, Hamberger takes the mound.

Hamberger gives up a single that drives in 2 runs to the 1st batter he faces. 12-0 Creighton going to the next inning.

How is this game still going isn’t the mercy rule in effect? 10 runs; 7 innings…

From what I recall from games in the past, the mercy rule for Big East conference weekend games during the regular season only applies to the last game of the series. That would be the travel day for the road team.

Bottom 7th, Hamberger has the bases loaded with no outs. A Sac fly for the 1st out drives in a run. 13-2 Creighton.

A 2 out single drives in another run, 14-2 Creighton going to the next inning.

Dougherty pinched hit for Belisario and is now playing in RF.

Bottom 8th, after a 1 out single, Hamberger comes out of the game. Galusha comes in to pitch.

Galusha retires the first 2 batters he faces to end the inning. 14-2 Creighton.

Chris Jones does not know who the UConn starting pitcher will be tomorrow.

It’s likely gonna be a bullpen game-who else if left that coaches trust even the slightest?

If offense can come alive it would
Be great to allow leftovers to pitch with some margin for error.

Our team ERA is up to 6.6. It’s truly astounding how terrible our staff is this year. Presumably it’s a combination of folks not executing to their ability and the staff missing on their analysis. Although the latter has to be tempered by the fact that the players we were counting on to be our top two starters had started last year and haven’t been anywhere near that level of performance.
