Top 6th, Root gets a 2 out single, he advances to 3B on a wild pitch and a throwing error. He is left on base. 6-0 UConn.

The UConn women's basketball game will be starting in about a half hour from now. When it starts, I will be watching it, and will stop doing my inning by inning posts for this game. Hopefully this game will be close to being over by that time.

Defense has been up to the task tonight:

Minick had a great ESPNSCTop10 worthy play @ 3rd earlier as well.

Sam Hutchinson comes in to start the B8.
Hutchinson gets the first out but leaves for Shaw after giving up 2 runs w/ men on 1st & 2nd.

Shaw gives up a 3R seeing eye double making it 8-6 w/ two outs and Pender goes to Afthim. Brady get the last out leaving 2 on base. Oof

I double now makes it 8-7 with 1 out in the 9th. I hate to say it, but if they let this game slip away, the season is unofficially over.

And now another walk, 1st and 2nd, 1 out

Strike out - 2 outs. Best hitter who is 0-4 up for Creighton.

Strike out to end game. Thank goodness.

Problem is, right now we have only 3 reliable pitchers (Pudvar/Suchy/Afthim, maybe Finn). The rest of the pitchers are a mess. Way too many walks, hit batters. Guys who we thought were reliable are struggling bad. The good news is that having 2 of your reliable guys be weekend starters is a positive and hopefully Cooke is turning things around. Up 8 runs, we need the bullpen to be able to throw strikes. If they can get some reliable pitching out of the pen then there is hope, being that we are half way through the season, not sure that it will happen unfortunately.

I'm operating under the belief that we will need to win the BE tournament if we want a postseason.
The problem is that even if we are the best team in the conference, which despite all our struggles is possible, tough to win tournaments with so few pitchers that you can have any confidence in.

LF, RF, and D.H. are always pretty variable with different players in the lineup for UConn baseball this season.

Also always seems that Daniels could wind up at either 2B, RF or D.H. this season. Of course he is in the lineup almost every game if he is healthy.
