UConn Coaching Hire Incoming

I’m sure Jay either called Hurley or Hurley called Jay on this, and I doubt Jay would steer Hurley wrong on this. Another young guy that’s probably hungry to prove himself, especially away from his comfort zone at Nova. Go get us some studs from Philly.
Yeah like Jay gave the okay on the guy that took over for him.

Would be weird to see nardi on our bench. Don’t think I’ll ever get used to taliek being on the stj bench
Nardi was me and my roommate's Public Enemy #1 while we were at UConn.

My roommate used to do this gag where he would heckle players/coaches from the first row of the visitors' bench side of the student section, but only use "clean language", which allowed him to walk the line between annoying POS vs. guy deserving to get kicked out of a game. It kept security on their toes and mostly flabbergasted.

His go-to when Nardi on the bench was: Hey Nardi, you are a weiner! Only one time, probably his senior season, which lined up with my junior season, Nardi made eye contact with my roommate and low-key flipped him off.

Anyways, should Nardi join UConn's bench, my hopes is that he receives my penance, representing both myself and my college roommate.

I agree on this point. And he makes about half of what Kimani and Luke make. Seems to be low ego guy who retains the connection to Calhoun.
Less than half. Which is why I'm under the impression that Tom is already the de facto GM and not really a full assistant coach like Luke and Kimani are.

He’s been in the coaching world for almost 40 years. I hope he sticks it out for a bit longer, he’s a really valuable coach to have & we know he won’t leave at this point. But I can’t blame him if he’s about ready to hang it up, he can draw on his retirement accounts at this point.
He actually said in a podcast last year he wouldn’t mind trying to be a HC again if the right opportunity presented itself. I think it was the same pod where he told the story of Rip being dressed for the game when he did bed check the night before final

And also take this one for what it’s worth- a former Nova teammate of Nardi’s who I randomly live close to just told me it is indeed true, MN will indeed be on our staff.

I remember having a long conversation with Tom back in the late 90s when I was considering sending my son to Calhoun's camp. Tom was the one running the camp at the time and was very gracious about answering all my questions.

When I was still coaching Tom was at a game and talked to me after a loss. I told him how we're struggling to use the 4-spot in our zone offense. He drew up a set with 3 or 4 variations for me on the spot.

I've sent it to 3 or 4 of the 'yarders asking for coaching help on here and my school (which I don't coach for) uses it to and named the play after him.

He's a genuinely good guy that just loves the details of the game of basketball.

Not really. He’s turning 60. Hopefully he’ll be our GM until he’s in his 70s. Did he have 10+ years of coaching left in him?
I dunno, how old was Blaney when he retired?

It just means that once again he's willing to announce something prematurely.

I mean, we have a Seton Hall guy as our Head Coach who is brothers with a Duke guy…
When Dan got hired, I heard the 13 year old voice in my head say “no, we can’t hire the Hurl.” The. I looked at what he’d done at URI, and I set aside my ancient Hurley vitriol. Not that we truly hated Dan, but we sure despised him just for being Bobby’s brother..
