UConn Coaching Hire Incoming

I’m sure Jay either called Hurley or Hurley called Jay on this, and I doubt Jay would steer Hurley wrong on this. Another young guy that’s probably hungry to prove himself, especially away from his comfort zone at Nova. Go get us some studs from Philly.

Pretty sure it’s Nardi, now the reason as to why now is the mystery. Guessing it would be:
- Hurley grooming a new young coach, knowing Luke/Kimanis days are numbered.
-Maybe Tom Moore is moving to full time GM.
- Tom Moore retiring soon?
- Hurley felt like they needed another coach to help handle everything in this landscape.

Curious to hear more on it.
Tom is 59 but soon to be 60. Seems young to retire but you never know.

Keep in mind that a few years ago they expanded the number of coaches a team could have that work with players and basically function as assistants, regardless of title. There’s some recruiting differences for off-campus stuff but that’s about it. They can still work directly with players. Tom has been VERY busy with GM-like duties. Changes on this staff are done with the approval of all. It’s all good, very good even.

Can anyone provide any insight as to what Nardi's player group responsibilities were at Nova (guards? wings?,etc) and if he had a certain geographic focus/strength in recruiting? Being a St Pats grad I would imagine it would only strengthen our ties there and in NJ in general.

Didn't this guy used to bother me as a player? He's become a good coach, has he?
I remember that entire group of guards well but he is a blank spot in my memory on that team.
But then again I lost any memory of David Onuorah as a Husky.
Just means I'm old or smoke too much.
I would really like this hire though.

Danny must know him really well. He was at St Pats when Danny was coaching St. Benedicts. I watched him play a lot when he was in HS and yes he was annoying

I think between Diggins and Nowell, Philly recruiting is going to be sparse going forward.

When can we steal back Taliek from Pitino?
I wish this hire was Taliek Brown
Nothing against Nardi
Taliek deserves the career bump and would bring so much to the program, he is family and has paid his dues, at uconn and st.johns

How big a part has Tom Moore played in the history of success @ UConn.
His contributions are way underrated

I would love to have Taliek on our staff at some point but he's going to need a year or so of decontamination before I'd let him near any of our players.

Lol true! Nardi does have a lot of great experience, nice move to have such an experienced coach in case one of the current assistants leave

That's my question, Tom was a great recruiter.

Also, isn't he basically our big man coach? Who fills that void.

He’s been in the coaching world for almost 40 years. I hope he sticks it out for a bit longer, he’s a really valuable coach to have & we know he won’t leave at this point. But I can’t blame him if he’s about ready to hang it up, he can draw on his retirement accounts at this point.
