I gotta think that now that UConn has hired an offensive minded coach, a lot of the players on offense who are thinking of entering the portal might decide to stay.

I would hope that all of the portal kids would now see that UConn hired an established coach who develops kids for the NFL. But especially those on offense.

I'm guessing the bulk of the guys who entered the portal did so to keep their options open and planned on meeting with whoever we hired to replace Mora before making any decisions.

Depends on who Candle brings imo. Guys like Rosa and Mel look pretty much done, the rest we probably have a good shot of retaining but Candle might prefer bringing over his own guys.

Unfortunately for those who already entered they can’t be sure they got into the new coach’s plan including nil. I would assume those who did not enter the portal would have their scholarships honored by the university. The others may have learned a life lesson.

Technically…they haven’t entered yet. Portal doesn’t open until January. I am sure they announded their plan to enter to see what interest is out there,

You may be right but not sure you can draw that conclusion yet. Ben and Carsten declared that they were entering the portal prior to Candle being hired. Wayburn was after.

My guess is we will retain the players that Coach Candle wants to retain. The players he doesn’t want will stay in the portal and some will move down in competition level.

I think plenty is to be decided on the portal, but quality lineman are always in high demand for high major teams so it will be a dogfight to get a lot of these guys back. Grateful for the contributions they have made over the past couple years, hopefully they play at least one last time with the team in Fenway.

Why? If it wasn't for our high-powered offense this year, we would have been in mighty trouble. The defense looked inept much of the time.

Yeah, if it was any other position, I think there is a solid chance to “win them back” but OL stepping up to P4 is where the money is at.

Hopefully Candle can bring a guy or two over and some of the reserves who we saw peeks of, can play.

If Candle isn't going to have a zone run offense and zone run blocking scheme, no biggie. All the players would have to re-learn their blocks and learn how to work as a unit. Mora and Sammis liked athletic linemen who could get to the edge, get downfield and get in front of speed rushers.

Overall, no complaints with the line the past few seasons. Hoeh was a great pick up in the portal and Big Ben gave four seasons to UConn. I'd like Ben back, but he's square with UConn in my opinion. Neither one owes the other anything unless it's mutually agreeable.

I'm not the least bit worried about having to replace either of the guards or RT through the portal.
