UConn 2026 Outbound Portal Transfers (*No transfer speculation until announced/posted*)

If Candle isn't going to have a zone run offense and zone run blocking scheme, no biggie. All the players would have to re-learn their blocks and learn how to work as a unit. Mora and Sammis liked athletic linemen who could get to the edge, get downfield and get in front of speed rushers.

Overall, no complaints with the line the past few seasons. Hoeh was a great pick up in the portal and Big Ben gave four seasons to UConn. I'd like Ben back, but he's square with UConn in my opinion. Neither one owes the other anything unless it's mutually agreeable.

I'm not the least bit worried about having to replace either of the guards or RT through the portal.

Super far out but Torian Johnson looked good filling in at LT and Jayden Bass supposedly impressed enough to be a top reserve on the 2 deep.

Both local ish (Massachusetts) guys too
 
Have all the running backs from this season announced they were entering the portal? Hope some change their minds.

No one cares about what happens in the "lesser bowls" only that your team got there. (Until they can use the record as a tool to get the coach fired lol) If the team loses that's on Mora leaving when he did.

I think it does something for the kids who play. There may be opportunities for guys who wouldn't have gotten them and Candle gets a look at them. Given the new normal of Portal opt outs and coaching changes, I don't think anyone is going to use this as a black mark against UConn FB should all the worst case scenarios come to pass.

I would not be overly surprised if a number of portal entries still play in the game honestly. The team and is very senior laden and has some long UConn tenures that I could see wanting one last ride. I will totally understand if they do not play, but not counting out anyone from playing until it is official.

Did Candle start working for UConn yet? I saw a FB post talking about Danny giving his seal of approval for Candle. It mentioned that he starts on December 15th. Is that accurate or just some more misinformation on FB?

Depends on your definition of working for I guess. He may have that as an official start date, but I doubt he is sitting on his hands until then, evidenced by him flipping the QB recruit. Though I am sure the logistics of moving to CT does take up some of his time.

In the CSCU system, they almost mandate you start on the first day of a pay period. That would be Friday the 11, but your first day is all HR matters. The 15th might be his effective first day, if UConn is similar.

Officially, unknown. 12/15? Maybe due to some UConn or state HR requirements. However, Candle and/or another Toledo coach headed to UConn obviously communicated with ex-Rockets’ commitment, QB Bo Polston, now headed to Storrs.

Sporting a shirt with a Huskies’ logo at MSG, Candle certainly appeared to be playing the part of UConn coach when he attended the UConn-Florida game with Benedict. Just a WAG, but I’d bet Candle will be introduced at Friday’s UConn-UT game. Officially official, or unofficially official, Candle’s begun running his Huskies’ show.

It was widely reported that he met with the team on Monday 12/2 when they returned from Thanksgiving break. I think there is a Boneyard topic on it.

Thank you. They may play and they may not, but given we only had ONE player sit out the bowl game last year I don’t get why the fanbase seems to be in a hurry to assume folks entering the portal won’t play, instead of patiently waiting to see what the players do.

Oh, I guess I answered my own question. But if we’re not going to be patient, can’t we be optimistic?

Do we have any idea of approximately when the guys who announced they are portal bound - or anyone else for that matter will confirm that they will be either playing or sitting out?
