This is my view pretty much, too. As long as you are one of us, I’ll root for you. Once you go to the portal, I don’t really care what you do anymore.

I think most of the guys Mora complimented are heading to FCS schools. Honestly wouldn’t be shocked if they were advised to move on. I think he even said on one any FCS coaches who need info on this guy should contact him. For guys he wanted to keep he has not been so responsive
Yeah I don't remember him being as generous with Robinson.

Dicey proposition. Don’t know what transpires in the room when S-A tells Coach Mora he’s checking out greener pastures. Wide range of conversations, but when the outcome is “Portal”, the public reaction is “ Good luck”. As noted the good luck seems to range from sincerely hoping for a great landing to a grudging acknowledgment that the die is cast(Durrell). End result is Tony Soprano, “Your dead to me”.

If you subscribe to Storrs Central (which you should, both for content and for support of the program), you can view a video interview with Coach Mora from this weekend where he discusses his approach to the portal generally and also specifically talks about the Robinson situation. Suffice it to say that we have the right coach with the right mentality in the portal era.

I will echo your call for everyone to subscibe to Storrs Central. It’s only $100 for a year and helps NIL. And yes, I practice what I preach. I subscribe and also contribute quarterly to Bleeding Blue for Good. And no, I’m not affliated with the organization. Just passionate about getting UConn FB to the next level
I believe our best path to success is through the portal for now. Mora certainly likes it. We get ready to go talent which is, more often than not, better than the high school talent we can currently attract. Maybe that changes when/if we join a conference.
NIL is as important, if not more important then conference affiliation to get top talent. That said, we desparately need to be in a P4 conference for long term athletic sustainability, schedling, and overall competition.

Nice to have a successful season and still get bombarded with bad news.
This is the new reality. For the foreseeable future, it is unavoidable.

Is Bleeding Blue just for football?

They need more clarity on this, which shouldn't be the case at this point in time

If one wanted to contribute just to football, they wouldn't want it to wash in some general collective hoping football got some of it. Basketball gets enough compared to football and the other sports

No, it’s not just for football. When you make a donation, you can designate which program you want to support.

Going to take it that Mora handled it consistantly. If so great!

Guys... if they are still on our team at the time of the bowl game, and Coach Mora thinks they're the best player to play, then they FREAKING PLAY!

I don't need some sort of "loyalty clause". If you're willing to wear National Flag Blue instead of that crappy sky blue, then we're good...
It's Carolina Blue....c'mon know your colors! ;)

Definitely our likely fate absent a good conference.

There's no way we had a chance holding on to him with these as his first two offers. The part that comes in now for him is figuring out how much PT he'd get at these schools. I know nothing about WVU or Auburn so I don't know if he'd step in as a Day one starter. However, you'd gotta think he'd be looking for that, as well as a pay raise.

Jumping ship to a school like Auburn seems like a near no-brainer if the goal is to make money now. They have deeper pockets so there’s a chance to make money sooner rather than later. But if the goal is the NFL, I’m not sure this is the right move. I don’t know anything about Auburns RB depth but with such a large brand, there’s a chance they’ll pay for a deep line-up of RB’s. To get to the next level, a player needs playing time and game film. He may not get that at Auburn but will certainly get that at UConn. I know I’m biased but I don’t think it’s worth it if the goal is NFL

There’s gonna be a phd student in ten years who’s gonna do the research on these multi school transfer students and see how they fared against their peers
There are 15 to 20 RBs drafted by the NFL each year which is not many. It seems to me that the smart play for a fringe NFL talent, especially with the possibility of a career ending injury, is to maximize your financial opportunity while you can.

You could also tear a knee up and be done. If you're gonna make 50k here and someone offered 300k that's a no brainer. I'm making numbers up by the way.

He would also not have been the feature back here. Sucks for us, but if the choice is 3 to 4 times the money for the same role, then you have to take it

This is just the beginning. Teams were clearly reaching out already before he announced. I hate that side of all of this. It's not free agency until regular season games are over but I know teams reach out to players before then. He ain't gonna risk injury in a bowl game with P4 teams calling.
I said that before as I have heard from my brother who is an Ole Miss guy and how they reach out early. Of course it is illegal but how it is done.

I think he might've ended up being our featured back... if he stuck around... He was that good I thought... But, in hindsight, I think he might've been looking for more notariety at a higher level of competition that is (dare I say it, because we need to be a part of one) already in a P4 or P5 level conference...

There's 2 RBs that we had this season that did something extremely well (Robinson and Brown), now one (Robinson) needs to be replaced... that was to get going North/South, in a hurry... My hope is Rosa picked up a few things from the 2 and fills in nicely for '25... He's extremely talented too, but, if he can get going North/South a tad quicker, we don't/won't have a drop off whatsoever (barring injury).. with that said we still gotta replace Robinson (and bring another back in due to the portal stuff)
