Fagnano had a decent season, but UConn faced a relatively easy schedule.

The biggest problem over the years for UConn has been the lack of a good OC or QB coach so top QBs are not going to come. Hopefully, UConn has turned the corner.
The lack of a conference doesn’t help. Football and men’s hoops have a problem that I think only getting into a P4 conference solves. We can get into any conference that'UMass can get into, which might help football but is a non starter for hoops. Hoops fits anywhere but football doesn’t. So BE hoops is fine for hoops. Football has always been the key. I don’t count women’s hoops (which I follow) because since the old BE, they haven’t been in a conference that gets them any real league competition anyway so it hardly matters what conference they are in, and they will never be the reason why we get a P4 invite.

ETA And is obviously why we will be a feeder football school and get portal guys many of whom are trying to see the field where they haven’t at P4. I’ve been impressed by some of the portal guys who have seen us as a step up in both sides of the ball.

I'd say there is a chance especially if we give him more NIL
No, what he was offered from various other schools, we will not be able to come anywhere close and that’s all I’ll say.

It seems that nobody has been all that much in love with our portal QBs. I get that competition for a position is ok, but at some point high school QBs will figure out which schools are always looking for experienced guys to come in. Obviously if a transfer, including Evers beats out a Wellever or McDonald for that matter. doesn’t it start to say something negative about how we evaluate and/or attract capable hs QBs?
At UConn we are unique. How many QBs have we had that put up decent numbers or showed they were average college QBs? The guys we pine for like Shireffs or Pindell were average or below. We just had our most TD passes in 20 years and the number was 23.

The idea is to bring a guy with some bonafides to compete. Doesn't mean the guys already here can't beat that guy out for the job.

I know. But it seems reasonable to wonder why our HS recruits seem to regularly lose out to transfer guys. Even Turner really didn’t hack it although he didn’t wait to see if he could improve what he needed to. Maybe Wellever or one of the others will fill the bill. I think it’s fun to see young guys develop, but for better or worse, that isn’t today’s world.

I am tired of hearing the weak schedule, when it is what it is. They play who is on it, and the only game they were out of it was Maryland which was a disaster.
They are 8-4 going to Fenway to play UNC. That is pretty freaking good

So you are saying Cam Edwards, Mel Brown and Victor Rosa aren't good enough to win the damn game?
If I had said that you would have quoted me, wouldn’t you have. It’s because you know that I didn’t say anything like that that you didn’t quote me and just attacked instead.

If Victor Rosa getting Durrell Robinson’s carries gave us a better chance to win games, he would have been playing the moment he recovered from injury and would have gotten more carries before he got hurt. I’m glad you don’t care about a running back averaging 6.8 yards a carry. Luckily, our staff does.

You chose to "attack" my post first, and you did say something like that. That we needed this player (with one foot out the door) to play in order to win the game. That implies our stable of other backs could not get the job done

Then you reach for the absurd by saying Victor Rosa, who would be 3rd string for this game, would be taking over Robinsons carries? Really? He's jumping over Edwards and Brown? Are you for real?

And do you even know what the staff is doing? Of course you don't.

Give your act a rest

Or could it be that maybe Rosa was more hurt than him or the staff said.

You are right. The 3 backs are good enough to win the game. And I couldn’t agree with you more: priority should be given to guys that are staying and have had a significant impact on us winning 8 games. If a guy has one foot out the door, it’s reasonable to question if his head will really be in the bowl game.

Guys... if they are still on our team at the time of the bowl game, and Coach Mora thinks they're the best player to play, then they FREAKING PLAY!

I don't need some sort of "loyalty clause". If you're willing to wear National Flag Blue instead of that crappy sky blue, then we're good...

Jeez. I said their was a chance because until he moves somewhere there is a chance. You zoo guys are too much.
Just passing on what I was told by someone in the know, we won’t be able to come anywhere near what he has been offered.

That one stinks, I had really high hopes for him. I feel like it’s odd, he was behind really good upperclassmen but the opportunities were gonna be there next season. It’s not like he’s got tape out there where he’s gonna get a bag for transferring.

It is, because coach has tweeted otherwise.
So if you're leaving for a potential bigger NIL deal you gonna risk injury and losing that? I'll believe when I see it. Coach Mora says a lot of things.

Was hoping this young man would come out of his redshirt year threads to produce in '25 with so much hype around him coming in. I hope this one doesn't bite us in the end.

It's just the new name of the game. I too thought he was going to kill it here. Sucks, hopefully Jackson Harper, Zach Drawdy and others do great.

It’s strange, however, when a scholarship true frosh doesn’t play and then leaves. Without having gotten on the field, hard to believe he will see a much better offer than the one here he accepted originally. Did he just not like it here? Did he not see a path to the field next year? Any way, good luck to him and NEXT.

I have this sentiment as well. You're a Husky until you say you want to leave for another school, at that point, you're now the competition. NIL and portal have taken the old-fashioned student athlete view and turned them into minor league contract players. My loyalty is to the team/university, not the player. Want to leave, okay, go, I don't wish harm upon you, but don't expect me to root for you (unless you left due to graduation or are going to the pros). Want to stay and play, great, then stay and go all out. Once you declare for the portal however, my support for you ends as you have publicly declared you see no future (or value) with the school. This has become the transactional nature of collegiate sports. I understand what Mora wrote, though it was noteworthy he didn't express that sentiment for Robinson, why, because he knows he's done playing for us. If you declared your intent to stay, you should get the opportunity to play over anyone who is leaving.

Who knows why he is leaving, but when he signed with UConn, the WR room looked a lot different than it looked like by May 2024. UConn was short WRs when he signed and arrived at UConn in January 2024, but by May 2024, UConn signed 5 WRs through the portal and all of them played. Three of the portal WRs are slated to come back Porter, Gathings, and Bell, there are other WRs on the roster, UConn signed one HS WR, and UConn is offering transfer WRs.

Total speculation on my part, but I get the feeling Brock had other compelling offers coming out of HS, but he decided to honor his UConn commitment and give it a year. He participated in the early part of the season, but then stopped getting playing time after four games - obviously to preserve his redshirt.

It will be interesting to see where he lands. I would think its someplace closer to home and with someone that was on him hard last year.
