Sorry, but put me in the column of wishing him well and thanking him for what he did for us this season but ready for the next step at QB. I feel like we found our ceiling with Joe and that was beating mid level G5 schools. We need someone who can take this team to the next progression of our development, beating some lower tier P4 teams, like Wake. I don't feel Joe gives us that ability. TBH, Evers doesn't either and I'd rather have Joe, but still....
IF Joe has a year left it actually (you can argue it if you like) helps us. One thing he did have that was HUGE for us was a chemistry with returning WR Bell. How many times have we seen back to back years of consistency between QB and Wideout during our FBS years???? Honestly, we probably gotta go back to Orlovsky years. Or am I wrong?

I said it somewhere else:
My dream is that Joe has eligibility(appears that he does) and realizes Cole Welliver is going to beat him and Nick out for the job, and is deciding if he wants to be the veteran safety valve on the bench mentoring a RS frosh and future star Cole Welliver.
If Cole was going to beat him next season, don't you think he would have taken more than 3 snaps (or whatever it was) last season? So unless Evers develops poise and the ability to quickly go thru progressions and make the right decisions, it will almost certainly be JF who starts. For JF the game has slowed down. Not so much for Evers yet, although it could do so next season.

I think Cole knows he has a future at UConn. But my sense is that he is still developing and is confident that he will be the man at the right time.

RSTut, the operative word in my statement was dream. I was certainly hoping, as were many, that we would see Cole in the the max 4 games and maintain redshirt status. I really don't know what the 3 snaps means or doesn't mean. Just hopeful that he is the athlete that he was recruited to be.

If Cole is not ready to take over the reins, I'd prefer another year of Joe over Nick. It would take a big improvement by Nick to move ahead in my mind. I believe a fully engaged fired up Joe Fagnano would allow us to take another step as a program.

Go Huskies, whomever your QB is going to be!

yep...
"His preparation mentally to what will be his final college game, maybe his last football game, won't change."

OK…how do we not know the solid answer to this? This whole season I (and I believe all of us) were under the impression this was his final year. We must have had that impression for a reason.

Do we really think he has another year? Anyway…if he does it’s nothing but a good thing. But it seems strange we didn’t know this.

He played during the 2020 Covid year which I guess wasn't supposed to count. People don't know if that's really the case or not. If 2020 didn't count, he has another year. If 2020 did count, he's out of eligibility.

Given there have been no definitive statements, I would bet the whole issue is being handled by Compliance Department and whatever is left of the NCAA. Need to know if Joe is working out with the team, anyone got an inside man?

When Joe transferred here, he had two years of eligibility left. So the only way he would have another year is if he was granted a medical redshirt for 2023. Very possible this is something that has developed in the time after the season ended. I know there were talks of us going after a QB in the portal but those never materialized…maybe Joe returning is why?

“The NCAA’s solution came in the form of an extra chance for the student-athletes affected by the pandemic. In 2020, the NCAA announced that athletes who played during the season could extend their college eligibility by a year. This protected athletes’ eligibility and allowed them to stay for a fifth year to make up for lost time during the pandemic.

We dont discount any other QBs who played here numbers against FCS schools, so we shouldn't even need to play that game. I thought it was stupid to knock his game against Merrimack then and I still feel that way now.

Not a knock against your post, just silly to knock a good performance against an FCS school when every QB here has played against FCS teams.
Agree. I do think early in the season when there were only a limited number of games it was fair to point out that one of Joe's games was the Merrimack game and that that skewed his stats, but that was only because the sample size was small.

People were knocking him because it was Merrimack. You could only play the team in front of you. It should have been clear as the day in the Buffalo game since both QBs played, that the offense functioned better with him and still people knocked him. I think its the bias that he came from Maine while other QB came from a P2 so he MUST be better. Trust your eyes.

Shrug. When your data is Evers versus Maryland and Joe versus Merrimack, I think it's fair to say that it's tough to make an apples to apples comparison. As it turns out, people who disregarded the caliber of opponent in favor of Joe were right.

Right now I am rooting for a fully healthy Evers to be a better QB than he showed last year. We shall see soon enough. In the meantime, I wouldn't be upset if we improved our quarterback room depth via the portal.

Not trying to be right, but I do try to be objective. The first signs were in the Maryland game.

Same. I considered the choice to be a push, with each bringing different things to the table early on. Eventually, though, it was clear the team moved better with Fagnano. Could not be happier how his career ended with a bowl win. Joe ended up being a quality teammate who showed his character when he wasn't starting but stayed ready and was effective when he came in.

Back to the topic on hand:

As a true freshman, he was a DE who had a bunch of 15 yard penalties for late hits and unsportsmanlike conduct. I liked his aggression although he never should have been on the field, but back then, we had no one else.

I was surprised when he was moved to TE. He got some run last year, barely anything this year. I wish him luck.

One career catch and that was for a TD…that’s cool.

Wish him the best, we are lowkey very deep at TE.
