At UConn we are unique. How many QBs have we had that put up decent numbers or showed they were average college QBs? The guys we pine for like Shireffs or Pindell were average or below. We just had our most TD passes in 20 years and the number was 23.

The idea is to bring a guy with some bonafides to compete. Doesn't mean the guys already here can't beat that guy out for the job.
You think pindell was average? Him and lashlee were the reason the offense put up decent numbers that you, if you look at our offensive production before and after pindell ya can’t say average especially for how we looked offensively before he came here

Maybe him, but he came from JUCO.

Edsall was also monetarily incentived for things like scoring first... Diaco wouldn't even try to score in the 1st quarter. Couple of families who sat in front of us wouldn't even bother to show up until the 2nd quarter because of it.

My two cents so far:

Stinks about Robinson, but unfortunately that’s just the game these days. We added a ton of talent through the portal last year, so the portal gives and the portal takes. Seeing his offers already make it clear it was a good decision for him. Maybe this convinces Rosa (who I still think can be useful) to stay.

The only other guy that bums me out is Brock Montgomery, I would assume he would know he wasn’t going to play this year, but we’re graduating several WRs and there will definitely be reps to win in 2025. Maybe Shamar Porter also being a freshman and leapfrogging him hurt his enthusiasm ? ‍

Robinson hurts. He's a baller. I didn't realize he was an Under Armor All-American and 4*. We seem to be the farm system for other programs. Guys need to decide if they want to be the big fish in the small pond, or small fish in the big pond. I guess that's what it comes down to. That and money. College is so different now. Guys used to transfer because they weren't getting field time. Now they get major burn and still transfer.

I wonder how many of these teams reached out before he declared?

It's hard to imagine with his relatively low profile coming to UCONN (from UNC Charlotte) that's not the case given the offers he's landing. I'm sure someone saw him play and got a watch on him and then tested the waters.

He was a pretty high profile recruit out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He had lots of P4 offers, but landed at Charlotte, where the head coach used to be the head coach at St. Frances. He had a nondescript year at Charlotte so he probably fell through the cracks and made it to UConn.

You had a really excellent post there until you decided to do a little superiority dance because some people on an internet forum don't know as much as you think you do. I mean, why do that?

Haha. If you know, you know.

So did he change his mind yet? Or did he get offers from Arkansas and Auburn?

Interesting comment from AD Dave last night. He was discussing the portal and said a bunch of things but he specifically mentioned tampering and how there really needs to be some kind of rule in place. He said every one of our players who have been successful this year has been approached by someone from another school during the season.

I also sort of wonder how many of these “offers” are real offers and how many are fishing expeditions/ expressions of interest to see who they can tie up. Last year there were a number of guys who supposedly had offers that ended up not to be quite as firm as expected. Joly was supposedly getting offers from higher profile places than NC State. The Holy Cross quarterback had B10 offers that ended up being so firm he went to UNLV. The James Madison quarterback had ACC and B12 offers that landed him at Texas State. In all those cases it seems like most of the offers weren’t really offers.

People have been questioning real “commitable” offers for high school kids forever. Nothing different here.

If we had NIL with those 2 we might not be in this situation

Every school has NIL so kids will move for what's best for them.
Will Uconn be disbursing 20million for revenue sharing next year?

Yes, hearing we expect to give out $200,000,000+++ along with lambo's, cybertrucks, yachts and trips to the moon. Get ready.

Talents like Robinson leaving are exactly why there should be no "building for the future" when it comes to game day QB selection in the transfer portal / NIL era. If you build someone up there is a decent chance they will leave, the only goal should be to win as many games as you can each season and then reload, "building for the future" is a thing of the past. Rosters are in too much flux these days to think beyond the current season and as a G5 our top talent is easily taken.
Win games now. Mantra in football should be don't try and play for the future. Your team is your team. Coach up, find talent.
