They could use a change in strategy.
Australia is breaking our press at will and scoring too many easy baskets.
 
This team runs poor half court offense and forces a lot of shots. So many players reluctant to pass. I don't see Van Lith as a PG at the next level. Players don't know how to Box Out and giving up too many 2nd chance points.
 
The refs are certainly letting them play.
It's virtually impossible to get a call if you aren't shooting the ball. Paige got mugged on the last drive and the refs just watch.
 
USA trailing Australia 40-39 at the Half. USA did not score in the last 3:43 of the half. Team runs poor half court offense and don't pass the ball out of double teams. USA is great in transition, but is limited in their half court sets. USA does better when Paige is in the lineup and should play most of the 2nd half, along with Howard.

In a game where the score is so close, it definitely sticks out that Celeste Taylor is +10 in the box score in just ~8:00, especially when everyone else is -, except Hillmon-Baker and Egbo. Paige leading with 11 points, Hailey Van Lith with 3 assists, Hillmon-Baker with 5 rebounds, Hailey Van Lith and Rhyne with 2 steals.
 
I'll have to watch the replay. I thought for sure that Paige has hit 2 three pointers in the first half. Unless her foot was on the line for one of them. Boxscore has her with just 1.
I think (hope ?) that the U.S. will wear down Australia in the second half. The game is being played at a high energy level.
 
All Tied at 53-53 end of 3rd Quarter. USA got out to a 4 point lead and then didn't score for the last 1:30 left in the quarter. I'm probably biased but when Paige goes to the Bench the offense struggles more. Not that they run good half court offense.
 
No wearing down. 53-53 after 3Q. Paige came up a little gimpy late in 3Q but is back for 4Q
 
Paige spent a lot of time on the bench in the 3rd q. Hopefully, she'll be fresh when they need her.
 
IF USA wins Paige Buecker should be the MOP of the tournament. Who knows where USA would be without her today.

Totally. I realize this is motivated reasoning, but I am not seeing why Jones wasn't selected for this team. Her ball handling and distributing from outside would have come in handy given how few ball handlers and trey shooters this team has. Like, I get that they need players from each year, but there's no universe where, say, Brink adds more to this team than Jones would have.

I don't see Boston as an All American at the next level, unless she significantly improves her game. I don't see many future All Americans on this team with the possible exception of Paige and Howard.
 
USA trails 64-63 with less then a minute to go. USA has two possessions where they could take the lead and didn't get good shots.
 
This team struggles so mightily against the zone. I don't know how much of that is on Walz and how much is on the players, but our passing is too slow to get openings outside, and they swallow our not-tall-enough interior players when they get the ball inside.
