U16 Trials

Mike Flynn Tweet
Halfway through last #USAB #usabwu16 session & tough defense is preventing most from making jump shots. Mostly nside play or drives. Hard for many to create roster spot separation. #RoughChoices to 18. @BlueStarMedia1 @BlueStar30_

Payton Verhulst is following CD and UConn but apparently UConn not following her at this time.......

Interesting that they would not have interest in Verhulst. Seems to be the best off-guard at the trials, and they have interest in so many of the top players, so it isn’t like they are being selective.

Maybe due to already having PB and NM added to their interest in Miles and Fudd, Verhulst would be on the back burner. Just speculating.

Certainly makes sense, I was just curious in respect to Bigby, Kampschroeder, Poffenbarger, etc.

Team seems to have significant size with 8 players that are at least 6'3" Tall. The smallest player is 14 Year Old Londynn Jones at 5'6" .

12 of the 18 are known UConn POI:

DeBerry, Barker, Jones, Miles, Betts, Hollingshead, Poffenbarger, Rice, Bransford, Gardiner, Citron, Moore

The only ones among the last 48 who didn't make it are Destiny Adams, Taylor Bigby, and Judea Watkins, the latter of whom is probably 13 years old but made her mark in a big way. Bigby and Adams were both lauded significantly as well.

Pretty good group.

could FIBA pick any more out of the way locations to play these games? How about a place like Brooklyn NY for a change................;)

With the USA so dominant, I doubt FIBA would give us any advantages such as venue

Also, I would guess the kids enjoy the travel and the exotic feel of these events. As long as the living conditions and arena's are suitable.
