I don’t really see the threat at all. Just idiots messaging each other.
Companies don’t like their employees doing that kind of stuff. However, it seems like they probably wanted to fire him anyway and this just accelerated it.I don’t really see the threat at all. Just idiots messaging each other.
Good God, I hope Fanta doesn't lose his job over this. When you say lose his job are you talking about his play-by-play announcing for Fox Sports and/or Field of 68? In any case, I hope he doesn't lose either of those jobs. I always liked Fanta and you can see his enthusiasm for Big East basketball just bleeds through. My guess is Fanta approached this like any normal person and was supportive of a popular BE Twitter account making a film. Also like most people, he probably didn't have time to watch it and gave his OK based on the assumption it wouldn't compare Cooley to Hitler and recklessly speculate about his marriage.
Now, as an employee of a Big East broadcasting partner, he's trying to figure out how to disassociate himself with the thing. And assuming there's evidence of him OKing the film, there really aren't a lot of good options for him right now. Sucks but it's not out of the realm of possibility that he loses his job.
No way I see that happening, everyone loves Fanta. He didn't say anything remotely bad and even if he was sent a copy he can claim he didn't take it seriously because it was some fun internet thing made by a Big East fan and he didn't watch it all the way through.Sucks but it's not out of the realm of possibility that he loses his job.
This is true. Fanta was not in the last 20 minutes, or whatever it was, where the infidelity and personal talk was going on.No way I see that happening, everyone loves Fanta. He didn't say anything remotely bad and even if he was sent a copy he can claim he didn't take it seriously because it was some fun internet thing made by a Big East fan and he didn't watch it all the way through.
If the Big East, Fox, the guys at Field of 68, Cooley or anyone else sues over this they'll look ridiculous. Everyone should just drop it and pretend it didn't happen.
It started as a fun internet thing. Then Portnoy called it to the attention of his 3 million followers and now all bets are off.No way I see that happening, everyone loves Fanta. Yeah the Twitter account that said he was fired has PHD of female anatomy in the bio.Goodman was not fired by the way
Amazing that people are able to find their way to an internet message board but are incapable of doing basic screening on the what they readYeah the Twitter account that said he was fired has PHD of female anatomy in the bio.
I'm not too familiar with the Field of 68, but if Cooley is upset enough about it, Fanta is really the only person Fox or the Big East would have the power to punish. When you say lose his job are you talking about his play-by-play announcing for Fox Sports and/or Field of 68? Cooley did a postgame 3-4 minute interview with Fanta so he couldn't have been that mad at him.I'm not too familiar with the Field of 68, but if Cooley is upset enough about it, Fanta is really the only person Fox or the Big East would have the power to punish.
Again, I don't think it's likely, especially seeing as Fanta seems to have a good relationship with Cooley. He doesn't say anything controversial himself, but the way it's presented makes it seem like he's anti-Cooley. The thing could get messy.
Normally guys who claim something like that have never actually seen one in real life.Yeah the Twitter account that said he was fired has PHD of female anatomy in the bio.
Just to be clear, are you saying the person who made the film is a literal child?Yes, Goodman was defending the BE logo and decided threaten a kid. Great take.
So where on the scale of approval/disapproval regarding Goodman were you prior to Cooley’s departure and where do you stand now?Goodman has been friends with Cooley since Cooley started at BC. He always tries to defend him.
He's not wrong. He ran right up to the line of what's permissible on that fake documentary. It's certainly possible to make the argument that he crossed it.Told BlueDemon he should get an attorney
The more attention this gets the more the parties involved will probably benefit from it. I can see the kid getting a contract with someone over this.Just watched the video. Didn't really seem that bad? The kids implied some stuff and said some stuff pretty…sternly… but I don’t think Fanta did or said anything that is compromising or puts him in a bad light
I get the BE coming for copyright, blah blah blah annoying business stuff
I’m assuming there’s a reason there’s Field of 68 pushback. Maybe they see it as a potential threat to their sources trusting them (again I don’t think Fanta said anything wrong or bad but I also don’t know how the media industry works)
Goodman can say some silly things but Rob seems like a pretty reasonable guy and he’s not happy about it either. But obviously the Goodman DMs were not a good decision
All that said - the video was definitely long but it was good. Pretty interesting and high quality considering it came from a random fan and not an official studio. It was documentary style, not releasing any information that hasn’t already been in the world for nearly a year. I don’t understand the hysteria behind it
I mean, would Cooley be able to sue for defamation of character? It’s one thing for message board rumors to float around. It’s another to produce a documentary that gets thousands of views that tries to pitch a rumor as fact. I’m interested in seeing how this all plays out.The more attention this gets the more the parties involved will probably benefit from it. I can see the kid getting a contract with someone over this.
It didn’t hurt FOX viewership. People will check out Field of 68.
Cooley will avoid it because where there is smoke there is fire and @FriarJ has posted there is confirmation to the rumors.
The BE wins because rivalries bring out fans and inflaming anger increases rivalries.
A contract is coming up for the BE.
Plus I’m bored. And threads like this are highly entertaining.
Isn't he one of the owners?Goodman was not fired by the way

I posted the tweet, but I wasn't suggesting that I "screened" it. I just found it amusing.Amazing that people are able to find their way to an internet message board but are incapable of doing basic screening on the what they read

I don't see it remotely pitch rumor as fact, didn't every single person shown explicitly say it was rumor/hearsay? Even the "Hitler" guy said he believes it, but also said it was his opinion based on his personality and things he's heard from other people, not that he knows for sure.I mean, would Cooley be able to sue for defamation of character? He can sue all he wants. He would have to prove they were lies and slander. He can’t do that. End of story. That’s why he has his sycophants (again) doing his dirty work by threatening this 20 year old DePaul student.I mean, would Cooley be able to sue for defamation of character? I was just speaking in broad terms.I posted the tweet, but I wasn't suggesting that I "screened" it. I just found it amusing.![]()
The people in the documentary pitch it as the reason he had to leave Providence.I haven't seen the documentary, but do they say it's a fact he had an affair?
I would think that all he would have to do is have his wife say that’s untrue and unless whatever women he supposedly had an affair with steps forward, that’s all the court would need.He can sue all he wants.
